SPEHS Parent/Caregiver Sunday Call
East Parent/Caregiver March 10, 2024
Greetings East High School scholars, families, and caregivers,
There will be no classes for students in grades nine, ten, or twelve on March 12th due to the junior ACT testing. By 1:15 pm, scholars will be dismissed, and bus transportation will be available for those who use the bus. For those scholars who have longer testing periods, alternative transportation arrangements are in place. We appreciate the help from our family and staff in providing food for our test-takers in advance.
The end of the third quarter and spring break are rapidly coming. The third quarter ends on April 2nd, and we have two weeks left before spring break. Let's use this time to focus on being punctual for class, paying attention during instruction, and demonstrating mastery of the grade level content by passing formative and summative tests.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the main office and our admin assistants will be able to direct you to the correct admin.
Regards,
Renee Coleman, Principal
Chrissy Mitlyng, Associate Principal
Heidi Walter, Associate Principal
Every student at SPEHS has our support and we strive for them to reach their full potential. We also want each scholar to have a sense of community at SPEHS and to be inspired to reach their full potential.
Cardinal Celebration
Great Music Week
Students in Sun Prairie have enjoyed some transformational experiences with composer Marie Douglas this week. She spent time working with our digital music makers, taught our concert bands how she layers trap music and hip hop into her band compositions, and brought the house down with her young people's concert for elementary school students focused on the Social and Emotional Learning themes in her music (click on the link if you love enthusiastic students and music). Students were fantastically engaged, fearless in their willingness to try new things and joyful in their music making.
SPEHS Women's History Month
WHAT IS WOME'N'S HISTORY MONTH AND WHY DO WE CELEBRATE IT?
On Friday, March 1st, we celebrate Women’s History Month! Women’s History Month originated as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28, which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982, as “Women’s History Week.”
Throughout the next five years, Congress passed joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.” Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month.
Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” These proclamations celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made in various fields throughout American history.
