Rowlett News to Know

Dear Parents,
Our fabulous PTA is making plans for our October 25 Halloween Bash Fundraiser. This is one of the best events of the year! We are in need of candy, so we've got a contest going. The class that brings the most candy gets to Silly String Mrs. Stevens...(and Mrs. Bain!)!!!! That same day is Character Dress Up Day...also one of my favorite days of the year! Since students can dress up on the 25th, we won't have costumes at school on Halloween (the 31st).
Speaking of dressing up...please scroll down to review the flyer showing dress code examples and non-examples. When students come to school in violation of the dress code, parents are called to bring new clothes which is a disruption to a parent's workday.
Thank you for getting your children to school each day. This September we had approximately 100 fewer absences than September 2023. Way to go! Students with perfect attendance all month got to boogie at the September AttenDANCE on Friday!!
Save the Date!
- October 11 Field Day!
- October 14-18 Fall Break
- October 21-25 Red Ribbon Week (Scroll down to see how we'll celebrate each day.)
- October 25 Character Dress Up Day at school
- PTA Halloween Bash Fundraiser 5:30-7:00 (Scroll to see the flyer!)
- October 28-November 1 Scholastic Book Fair

We need candy!
Bobcat Families,
Field Day is next week! Please make sure your child wears comfortable tennis shoes and brings a water bottle with their name on it. If they bought a t-shirt please have them wear it. We are looking forward to a fun day!!!
Greetings from the Art Room!
October finds us moving on to our next Continent--North America. We will be dividing our lessons with Canada being our first 2 weeks, then Mexico the following 2 weeks. We will spend all of November on the United States. We will be using Fall as our theme, and the Maple Leaf ties in perfectly. I really like to talk with the students as to what they want to create and listen to their desires on perfecting their craft. The lessons below are all driven by our conversations:
Many of our older students have been asking how to draw mountains and want to continue working on their trees. So I was thinking we might be making “postcards from Canada”.
The second and third graders will be making leaf rubbings and incorporate these with pumpkin drawings.
PreK , Kinder and First will be moving from their geometric shapes to form. We will work on our primary colors and create a fall scene as they learn to blend colors into orange green and purple.
Thank you again for the beautiful children I get to engage with daily.
4th and 5th grade has continued to rock those recorders!
Choir results will be posted Friday, October 4th!
2nd and 3rd grade have been learning and reviewing the dance, "La Raspa". This is a great song to finish off Hispanic Heritage Month!
1st grade learned how to match their feet to the beat played on the drum. They also moved their bodies and practiced counting to our new chant, "Hickory Dickory Dock."
Kindergarten and PreK are halfway through learning the pieces for their performance in November. Please save the date and get ready to see your Turkey in action!

Per Board Policy, the district permits students to possess personal cellular telephones; however, these devices must remain turned off and put away during the instructional day, including during all testing.
Students will keep their cell phones off while on campus.
At Rowlett, students may not wear smartwatches to school.
If a student is wearing a smartwatch or their cell phone is visible:
First offense: The staff member will tell the student to put their watch or phone away.
Second offense: The staff member will take the student’s watch or phone away and return it to the student at the end of the day.
Third offense: The staff member will take the phone away & turn it into the office. The teacher will notify the parent that the phone is in the office and the parent must come to the office to retrieve the phone. The office closes at 4:00.
Should you need to contact your child, please call the school (972-475-3380).
We are here to support you!
During the school year, we work with community partners who are willing to support our students and their families. If you could use some additional help this school year, please let us know. Please note that completing this form does not guarantee that you will receive assistance, as our partnerships may change or offer new ways to help. However, this form will assist your school counselor in identifying ways to help you and your family.
