Short Avenue IB Learners Strive to Be...
Mr. Lamb's Updates
Happy Weekend Short Avenue Families and Friends!
This is being written on a very hot Friday afternoon and I hope it is being read on a very lovely Sunday morning! We had a great 4-day week but it was certainly interesting with the extreme heat the last couple of days. I am very proud of our students and our staff for exercising caution and being safe by enjoying the library, shade, and repeated calls to drink water and stay hydrated.
As I have shared with you we are monitoring our attendance closely and, for the most part, we are doing well. One thing that has been noticed is positive Covid test results. We will be sending home tests this week so that you do not need to purchase. We need all students, families, and staff to continue to wash hands, drink water, and make safe healthy choices. Please know that the current Covid policy allows a return to the school site if symptoms are gone or improving and a mask is worn through Day 10.
We have four weeks of the 2024-2025 school year in the books and school is becoming routine. A reminder for our families for campus safety is to remember that all parents and visitors are required to sign in at the main office to get permission to be on site. This includes at drop-off in the morning. We have had a few too many occurrences with parents coming on campus and ignoring staff who are reminding of policy. We love our families and our community but I must hold us to our safety policy. Please be prepared to say good-bye to your child at the gate. If you know you will need to come on campus, you are reminded to sign in at the office. I appreciate your assistance with keeping Short Ave safe.
Finally, thanks to FoSA and their Dolphin Discovery Club support staff for having a very successful first week. We are trying some new systems and procedures and there were a few hiccups and missteps but by and large it was a very successful week. My philosophy is to “fail forward.” We will have errors in our efforts but there will be efforts to grow and improve and we will celebrate the process. Please let me or us know if you have suggestions on how to improve and do this work better.
Please enjoy the rest of your weekend.
See you Monday!

Peter Brown Coming to Short Avenue!
We're thrilled to announce that Peter Brown, the bestselling author and illustrator of The Wild Robot series, will be visiting our school on September 20th! 🤖🌲📚
Peter will be presenting to our 2nd-5th graders, but everyone in the community can order signed copies of The Wild Robot series! (All three books in the series are available for purchase.)
Important:
- Signed copies must be purchased through the link below by Tuesday, September 17th.
- Peter will NOT be signing books at the event—please don’t bring books from home to be signed (sorry!).
- Only books purchased through the link will be signed, and no personalized dedications will be available.
- Books will be delivered to students after the event.
- A few clarifications about the ordering process:
* Desktop browsers work better than mobile for ordering.
1. Check the Coordinated School Pickup Box – This indicates that the books will be delivered to the school.
2. Fill in the shipping info – Even though the books are being shipped to the school, the system requires a shipping address to be filled in. You can use the school's address if you prefer not to provide your own.
3. Calculate shipping – You will select the "Coordinated School Event Pickup" option, which should show a $0.00 shipping charge.
4. Complete the payment – Enter your credit card information and billing address to finalize the purchase.
Pay it forward! You can also purchase books to be donated to students who might not be able to buy one, to classrooms, or the library. Just make a note when purchasing.
Thanks for your continued support in creating a book-loving community!

Sholem has been renting our auditorium and a few classes on Sundays for a few years now, and they asked that we share with you their information. Are you Jewish, but not religious? Are you looking for a Cultural Jewish Sunday school for your kids? Are you interested in meaningful secular observances of Jewish Holidays? Please check them out.

Birthday Policy
Families,
We want to remind you of our birthday party policy. In an effort to be equitable and keep our students healthy, we do NOT allow caregivers to send in cupcakes and treats for birthdays. While classes may organize celebrations for various occasions throughout the year, birthday parties should be held outside of school. Parents are welcome to arrange with the teacher to read a story in their child's class, or lead a fun birthday activity. Additionally, parents are welcome to donate something special to the class in honor of their child. We understand that birthdays are special , and every student and staff member will be recognized with a birthday song at our monthly assemblies.
