Round 2 - HiCap testing
We begin our Round 2 of Highly Capable testing this week. This is when students will participate in the Iowa assessment in Reading and/or Math. Our students in grades 2-5 will test on Tuesday, December 3, from 1:00-2:30 PM. I will try to learn if Math or Reading testing will go first. ALL STUDENTS NEED THEIR CHARGED CHROMEBOOKS AND THEIR CLEVER BADGE. Each subject test is timed, but they are allotting 45 minutes, which includes transitions, directions, and testing. Please remember that while students are testing, they should not be required to make up any missed work.
For an updated list of student who will be testing and for which test, please click here.

- We have 26 students in grades 2-5 being assessed in Reading.

Live PD #1
This Wednesday, December 4, kicks off the 1st of our 5 Live PD sessions offered at CL. Our session will run from 3:00-4:00 PM. I will be registering all certificated staff for the trainings. I will also work with Mike to record the training if you need to participate in an asynchronous manner.
Our first session will focus on Resource Mapping. We will be gathering resource information for personnel (you all!) and then moving to curriculum and assessment. If we have time, we will begin to match our students of focus to staff, which will allow staff to make intentional connections with students throughout the school year. Our 2nd session in January will focus more on resource matching to specific needs.
Please remember attending the PD sessions are required for certificated staff. You can attend a live session or attend the asynchronous session once it's provided. Staff, please bring your charged laptop.

Safe Visitor Management System
The information below is being shared with you as an FYI. This is also being shared with families on December 1.
On December 2, 2024 we will start implementing our safe visitor check in and check out system. This will require our volunteers and visitors to have the office either scan your license or manually input some information to create a visitor sticker or id card that we will create for you to use if you are a regular volunteer. Please be patient with us as we navigate our new system. Thank you for helping implement another safety layer in our school community.

Technology Attestation
Did you know that all certificated staff will need to submit an attestation at the end of the school year sharing you have completed specific training related to technology? I learned more about this by watching an AI Tech Video that Mike shared several weeks back. Read below to learn more. You could also look up Addendum K in the CBA. The excerpt below is from Addendum K.
Article 48.1.4.C of the Northshore School District and Northshore Education Association states:
A responsibility to augment the basic education program by remaining technologically current. The PLR stipend will include an amount equal to 4.2% of the employee’s annual base salary dependent upon continued successful passage and receipt of funds from a technology levy. The District shall offer professional development for staff in areas aligned to the current tech levy, including areas such as student information systems, progress monitoring, system-wide tools and services, implementation of BYOD, etc. Technology proficiency (including participation in such professional development) is compensated by this stipend.
- 4.2% of an employee’s base salary generally equates to 7.6 days, or 58 hours for a full time employee.
The AI class Mike suggested is in PD place, Course 33506. In this video Shelby Reynolds shares about different AI tools, the ones supported by the district, and how you might incorporate them into your teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed the asynchronous class.
