Grijalva Family and Friends
Dear Families,
As we approach the end of our first semester, I’d like to take a moment to emphasize the importance of consistent attendance and punctuality. Research shows that attendance is one of the most critical factors in a student’s academic success. At our school, we work hard to ensure every minute of the day is meaningful and focused on building the skills your child needs to succeed.
For our youngest learners in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades, the morning starts with targeted foundational literacy instruction during a special block we call WIN (What I Need). This dedicated time ensures each child receives personalized support to strengthen their reading skills.
In 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, the first hours of the day are equally impactful, as students engage in core reading and math instruction. These subjects build the foundation for success across all areas of learning, and when students are late or miss school, they lose valuable instructional time that can be difficult to make up. Even arriving just 15-30 minutes late means missing essential lessons that set the tone for the rest of the day.
We know mornings can be hectic, and we appreciate your efforts in getting your child to school on time each day. Your partnership helps us provide the best possible learning experience for every student.
Thank you for your continued support in making attendance a priority! If you have questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Please be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and check Class Dojo daily for updates from your child’s teacher and the school.
Wishing you well,
Megan Chavez
Principal
As we wrap up our Thanksgiving season, we continue to be thankful for the amazing job that our staff, teachers, students, and parents are doing each and every day. We have been a tremendous team, working together to support our students and provide them with the tools they need to be successful at school.
As you head into the holiday season with your families, we wish you health, happiness, and joy. Each day, we are reminded of the treasures we have at Grijalva and are grateful for the wonderful people who fill our school. This year is certainly the year to appreciate everything you have. Thank you for your continued support.
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Grijalva Elementary School, we would like to wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!
Holiday Goodies
Just a reminder that all holiday goodies must be store bought and individually wrapped. Unfortunately, homemade cooking and items that are not individually wrapped are not permitted. Consider alternatives such as pencils, playdoh, etc.

Encourage your child to give thoughtful gifts
Many people exchange gifts over the winter holiday season. While children love receiving gifts, they also enjoy giving them. Does your child know that the most meaningful gifts don’t have to cost money? They simply take time and come straight from the heart. Your child could:
· Record himself reading a book for a younger sibling to listen to while reading.
· Frame a list, such as “My 10 Best Memories With Grandpa.”
· Play a favorite game with a family member or a neighbor who is homebound.
· Record an audio or video message for a loved one who lives far away.
· Create a music playlist with his favorite songs to share.
· Bake cookies and deliver them to someone who may not receive many homemade gifts.
· Create a calendar for 2025 and decorate it with personalized artwork.
· Make a gift certificate good for two hours of household help.
· Create a beautiful picture or poem about a special person.
Lost and Found !!!!
Our Lost and Found is overflowing again. Please have your child look for their lost jacket before leaving for break.
