Unity Day: Wednesday, October 19th
This past Wednesday students and staff wore Orange or a positive message t shirt for
Unity Day (an annual event occurring during National Bullying Prevention Month that promotes joining together to create healthier communities through kindness, acceptance of difference, and inclusion). Each team also took time during Morning Meeting to think about ways we can promote more kindness, inclusion, and acceptance at Sherwood.

**Important Information & REMINDERS**
MCAS Scores Will Arrive in the Mail This Week
MCAS scores will be arriving in the mail this week. As a reminder, MCAS data is used to inform our practices and refine and strengthen teaching and learning across the district. Given the unique challenges of the last few years, the Massachusetts Department of Secondary and Elementary Education noted that overall performance across the state was lower than typical years. This is also the case with our school and district data. Our teaching teams and administrative teams will continue to use the MCAS data as one of several measures to continuously monitor and support the growth of all students. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or grade level administrator if you have any questions.
Ski Club Signs Ups Now Open
Please be advised that this program is not a learn-to ski-program. The majority of our students are experienced skiers and have previously participated in learn-to-ski lessons.
We strongly encourage you to make sure your child has learned to ski prior to joining ski club as we are only permitted one adult chaperone to every ten skiers and skiers are expected to be fairly independent while at the mountain.
We hope you consider taking advantage of this winter opportunity! Sign up Here
Email Ski Club Advisor Mr. Tom Angell with questions: tangell@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us
Picture Retakes November 2nd
Picture Retakes will be on Wednesday, November 2nd for any students that was absent or is interested in having a retake. There is a $3 fee for retakes. Students can bring the money to school on that day. If you are ordering your child’s original pictures please have your order form in by November 1st.
Sherwood Students Participate in STEM Week
Sherwood students recently participated in the STEM Week kick-off event at Burncoat High School in Worcester. The team explained to Lt. Governor Karyn Polito their robot design and how they worked as a team to solve problems. The team members who participated include Abrar Haq (6 Navy), Cullen Bautista (6 Teal), Joshua Lee (6 Blue), and Vishrut Vijay Bhaskar (5 Red).
Check Out This New Resource for Students
Shrewsbury Public Schools has launched a new initiative for our students at Sherwood Middle School, Oak Middle School and Shrewsbury High School called School Pulse.
SchoolPulse is a Positive Psychology tool that provides weekly inspirational podcasts, check-ins, and the best Positive Psychology skills available. This will be done through text, three times a week.Participation is voluntary. Your child’s responses are completely anonymous (meaning we do not have their personal cell number or any personal information).
If you are interested, have your child try this out on their phone by
- Scan the QR Code in the image.

Parent Teacher Conferences Reminders
A reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Conferences will be held in person this year unless a parent or guardian requests a Zoom meeting.
Here at the middle school level, not all parents will receive an invitation to have a conference. This is different from the elementary level where most families typically meet with the teacher on the day of Parent Teacher Conferences. Teachers will reach out to you if they feel as though they have a specific concern about your child that they need to bring to your attention.
Please know that if you do not receive an email to meet with your child’s teacher on Parent Conference Day, you can always reach out separately to ask questions or set up a time to meet with your child’s teacher.
