How to get involved in your child's education at school
Have you signed up for https://mathbeforebed.com/? You can download a free sample e-book to spark math conversations at home!

Supporting your kids as they develop BASIC FACT FLUENCY!
When your child figures out a fact, you can ask them, βHow did you figure that out?β because verbalizing their strategies can help children make connections and develop reasoning. You can also support your child by talking about numbers as they come up in your daily lives. If youβre cooking, shopping, building, crafting, setting the table, doing chores, and so on, you can ask questions about the mathematics you are already doing. For example:
Β· I wonder how many socks we just took out of the dryer? How many pairs could that
be when we fold them?
Β· If a grown-up eats 2 eggs and a kid eats 1 egg how many eggs do we need to make
scrambled eggs for all of us?
Β· Weβve already read 16 picture books this week! How many more do we need to read
to get to 20?
Addition, subtraction, and place value are three of the most important topics in elementary mathematics. Itβs so important that your child has sufficient time to explore and make sense of these concepts on their way to fluency.

VALUES IN ACTION
Ms. Carruthers is working on a leadership project focused on promoting the five core values of Heritage Hills Elementary School. As part of this effort, we are diving deeper into the meaning and understanding of our school values, focusing on one value each month for the remainder of the school year.
In The Den Newsletter, parents can look forward to a wrap-up of the previous month's value, including highlights and reflections, as well as an introduction to the next value with key points and ways to reinforce it at home.
If you didnβt get a chance to complete the HHE Parent Core Values Survey last week, you still have until Friday, December 6th. This survey is a valuable opportunity to share your thoughts on the importance of these values, your child's understanding of them, and any suggestions you may have for strengthening them within our school community. β₯ In December, we are shining a light on Kindness.
Take on the Family Kindness Challenge! Spread positivity by performing daily acts of kindness and reflecting on their impact. Encourage your child to share stories of kindness theyβve witnessed at school or in the community with their teacher and classmates. Sharing inspires others and helps build a culture of kindness everywhere!
Perform a Kind Act Each Day: Each family member does one random act of kindness daily for a week. It could be helping with chores, saying something kind, or lending a hand to a neighbor.
Share Your Experiences:
At dinner, during car rides, or at bedtime, talk about what kind acts you did.
Reflect together:
How did the act make you feel?
What response did you notice from the person you helped?
Spot and Celebrate Kindness:
Look for acts of kindness in your community or school.
Ask your child about kind things theyβve seen at school and how those acts made them feel.
Letβs live the value of KINDNESS together!
