JACKSON VISION STATEMENT:
We are mission-driven, highly motivated, and maintain the highest expectations for ourselves, our students, and our colleagues. Our students are precious, and we will treat them kindly and with love every day. All of our students will succeed academically no matter what! Our tenacity and focus on what’s best for our children will guide our actions every day.
Hello Jackson Families!
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break. We were so excited to welcome our Jackson Jaguars back this morning! We know they will settle back into their routines quickly and make great strides toward their educational goals in the new year!
So many fun things happened the week before Winter Break that we want to share with you.
During the Awards Assemblies, we were excited to recognize many Jackson students for citizenship, extra effort, and A-Honor Roll. Please see the Awards section below for a list of student awards by grade level. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!
We also want to recognize Genesis Reyes, Naima Green, Vera Nudelman, Victoria Schwanke, Eden Versher and Jayden Ganison for their MLK "Together for Tomorrow" artwork! These students' entries placed in the Jackson contest and Genesis and Naima (1st and 2nd Place) will have their art on display at the Robinson Fine Arts Center and will be celebrated on January 18, 2025. Please see the MLK "Together for Tomorrow" section below to see their award-winning art work. Congratulations!
Big shout-out to Mr. Barnett, Jackson's Music Teacher, for coordinating the Holiday Sing-Along during the Winter Assembly on Friday, 12/20. All of our students had an opportunity to sing and dance along with many holiday favorites. It was such a treat!
During the Winter Assembly, we also announced Jackson's Teacher of the Year--Mrs. Michelle Cox, First Grade Teacher and Team Leader! She was nominated by our staff and we are so excited to have her represent Jackson at the District level. Mrs. Cox is known for building relationships with her students to help inspire and motivate them to learn. She wants all of her students to feel a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Mrs. Cox is also an active participant in school events and fundraisers. We are so proud of Mrs. Cox!
Jackson will be hosting a Career Day for our upper grades (grades 3-5) on Thursday, January 30. If you are interested in sharing information about your career with our students and making an impact on our their future, please complete this electronic Google Form. Our students would love to hear about your career and the education/certifications required to work in this field!
Thank you!

- Mrs. Cox received flowers for being selected as Jackson's Teacher of the Year. She was recognized on stage by Jackson's Principal, Dr. Roach, previous recipients of the Teacher of the Year award, and members of her family.
- Mrs. Cox and the First Grade Team.
- As students in the audience were asked to guess letters that spelled out the Teacher of the Year's name, the students on stage turned over letter cards if the guess was correct. Our students and teachers had fun guessing who was receiving the Teacher of the Year award!

We are so proud that Mrs. Cox will be representing Jackson at the District Teacher of the Year Awards Celebration!

The district calendars for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years have been published. Please use these dates to plan family vacations when school is not in session. It is important that students do not miss school for vacations that can be planned during times of school closure. The Texas State Attendance law requires students to be in school for at least 90% of the school days in order to not face the possibility of being retained in that grade level and parents facing required court appearance and possible fines. If your child is absent from school, you must email the secretary to let her know why they are out (sick, doctor appointment, etc.). Thank you!

Frankford Orchestra Instrument Petting Zoo
Attention Frankford families! If your incoming 6th grader chose ORCHESTRA for their Fine Arts Elective, please visit this link to sign up for an Instrument Fitting at our instrument petting zoo on March 31!
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F45A8AE2EA0F8C07-53005525-frankford#/
Frankford's instrument petting zoo is where your child gets to try each instrument to pick the one that is right for them. If you do not get sized for an instrument before the start of school, you delay the learning for all students, including yours. Additionally, your child will be placed on an instrument they may not want to play if you are not sized for an instrument before the school year begins. This creates scheduling issues when you skip this step, so if you're already this far... YOU'RE AMAZING!
Please email me at madison.pruden@pisd.edu or text (346)298-0666 to make arrangements if you miss your appointment.
- please enter the building with your child
- please select the earliest time slot that works for your schedule (try not to leave gaps in the schedule)
- please enter through door 21 when you arrive for your appointment.
_____________________________________________

Hello Jackson Families,
AVID is a district wide program that helps our students become college and career ready at an early age. Jackson teachers work hard to implement AVID strategies each and every day into everything we do to help your child succeed.
Here is this month's AVID Family Focus!
Collaboration: Let’s get talking!
Whether it’s asking, “How was your day?” or talking around the dinner table, students sometimes do not know how to express themselves. Below is the scholarly language card that teachers use with their students to encourage them to have positive conversations with their peers and family. Give it a try!!!
A paper copy will be coming home with your child for each family to have to help guide great conversations.
If you have any questions about these AVID strategies, please contact me, Shelly Arthur, AVID Coordinator, at shelly.arthur@pisd.edu.
Thank you!
Classroom Lessons
Welcome to the Counselors’ Corner! We will use this section of the eNews to inform you all of topics we will be covering in our Counselor lessons and any other important or useful information! Students come with their class to the counselor bi-weekly to receive lessons. We absolutely love this time with them!
For our January lessons, we will be focusing on College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) by highlighting how to be a successful student, goal-setting, and post-secondary options. During these lessons, students will gain self-confidence in their ability to succeed and the belief in using their abilities to their fullest to achieve high-quality results and outcomes. We will discuss how being a successful student now will better prepare them for their future and teach a variety of skills that students can utilize! Students will also focus on long and short-term academic, career, and social/emotional goals. Our goal is to prepare students for life after graduation by ensuring they have the tools they need. Students will understand how lifelong learning is necessary for long-term success! Additionally, students will be able to learn about and explore a variety of post-secondary options! Students will also learn the important of perseverance to achieve those long and short-term goals, which directly correlates with our new Jaguar of the Month Trait!
Jaguar of the Month Program
Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (Grades K-5) that incorporates character traits from the program, CharacterStrong. A new character trait is introduced every month and students will engage in classroom discussions and activities to reinforce the trait. At the end of the month, each teacher will identify a student who consistently demonstrated the targeted trait. These students will be recognized on JagTube, receive a certificate, wristband, and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office AND Jaguars of the Month will attend a popsicle party with Dr. Roach, our principal, and Mr. Riggle, our assistant principal!
Our Jaguar of the Month Trait is Perseverance! Our definition of Perseverance is pushing yourself to work through challenges and obstacles. Check out the CharacterStrong Family Letter (English) / CharacterStrong Family Letter (Spanish) for more information about PurposeFull People and some fun ways you can join us in teaching and reinforcing Responsibility! Monthly Family Newsletters will be sent home that outline the CharacterStrong skills students are learning in class and provide fun ideas to grow as a family at home.
We hope you find this Counselors’ Corner helpful! Please never hesitate to reach out for anything! We are always here to support you and your students!
Thank you!

Dear Jackson Parents,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! My name is Jacquie Wooten, and I am honored to be your PTA President for this upcoming school year. I have lived in Plano for 14 years and 11 years in this neighborhood. My youngest is a 3rd grader at Jackson this year and I also have a 13- and 11-year-old who are Jackson graduates and now attend Wilson Middle School.
I am a registered nurse and work full time as a nurse manager at a local hospital. I know what it's like being a working mom and juggling a job and family! I want to share with everyone the importance of PTA and the support it provides to our students and teachers. I would love to get more Jackson families involved in whatever capacity they are able. I hope to have the opportunity to meet each of you and work together to make a lasting and positive educational experience for our students!
Thank you!
