Principals Message
“Mā te ngākau aroha koe e ārahi”
“Let a loving heart guide your decisions.”
I want to express my gratitude to our community and staff for entrusting me with the role of acting principal while Erin Te Pou is on study leave. With the support of Erin our staff and board of trustees, I am confident in my ability to continue making positive decisions for the benefit of the students at Te Kura O Te Pāroa. This week, we initiated the Tūmuaki pūmanawa o te kura awards during our school assembly to recognize students who exemplify our school value of Mauri Tangata through Manaaki, awhi, and aroha. Notable students include Milly Te Naiti-Archer for delivering fruit buckets, Raniera Keepa-Montgomery for starting the day by giving Whaea Ramia a hug, Summer Merito for daily smiles and hugs, and Logan Anderson and Manaaki Winitana for their role as bus monitors.
Our staff have been delivering exceptional learning experiences for your children and grandchildren. Please check your child’s class dojo and class facebook pages to see all of the amazing learning opportunities that have been planned. Please show your tamaiti and their kaiako your appreciation for their hard work and dedication by responding or writing a message.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to come tautoko our tamariki. We had whānau help from the warmups, to marshalling, to manning the road, to taking photos and videos. We can’t express how grateful we are for all of you who arrived today!
2. Poroporo Womens Rugby.
Whāea Ihi put a tono out to her Poroporo Womens Rugby team to come tautoko. An extra pair of hands meant an extra pair of legs to run with the kids and man the corners of the paddocks. Nga mihi kia koutou. Hera Eruera we thank you for being our safety pair of eyes on the track.
3.The whānau who own the paddocks.
Without having access to the paddock’s whānau mā our middle/seniors tauira wouldn’t have had a long track to run. This meant our kids were exposed to: uneven surfaces, potholes and long grass… Nga mihi Rikki Tauroa me to whānau, Whāea Reremoana Hiha Ranapia me to whānau, Aiden me to whānau!
4. Kaiako mā/kaimahi o Te Kura o Te Pāroa.
Thank you all for playing important roles in yesterday’s events! From William setting up the speakers, to managing the kids, to marshalling, to fixing the Slip n Slide, to fostering little cheerleaders. We cannot thank you all enough!
When running around with the Junior kids, it was nice to see EVERYONE HI-FIVING!
This carried on onto the Middle and Senior track - all the kids were hi-fiving each other!
It reminded me of why we do what we do.
Results will be announced next week and our top 5 tauira for each age group will move on to Inter-schools Country held in Ohope Tuesday 4th June.
Proud of our tamariki, proud of our kaimahi, proud of our whānau and most definitely proud of our day!
Huri noa i tō tātou nei kura, nga mihi nui mo o tautoko i te rā o te Omanga Roa 2024.

Student Online Behaviour
It is important to use digital technology safely and responsibly. Parents and caregivers should monitor their child's interactions on social media platforms to prevent cyberbullying incidents. Even though these incidents may occur outside of school hours and off school premises, the repercussions are still felt within the school community. By keeping an eye on how your child behaves online, you can help prevent these negative behaviours from occurring.
Safe and responsible use of digital technology policy.
In keeping with our whole-school approach to student wellbeing, Te Kura o Te Pāroa promotes safe and responsible use of digital technology as a shared responsibility.
At Te Kura o Te Pāroa, we maintain a safe and responsible digital environment by:
· Setting and sharing clear requirements and expectations about acceptable and unacceptable digital use.
· Ensuring that members of the school community commit to these guidelines by signing the appropriate use agreement outlining requirements and expectations.
· Reviewing the digital technology use agreements annually.
· Educating students about the digital world, including understanding privacy and copyright laws, staying safe online, and protecting digital devices
· While at school your child’s interactions are monitored by the classroom teacher.

- All reviews are open to board members, staff, students, and the school community (parents/caregivers/whānau).
- Anyone can review any policy/procedure that has a review button.
The board is responsible for board-level overarching policies. The table below shows which topics the board should review. Note that other reviewers can review these topics too; they're not exclusively for the board.
Get started
The review opens Monday 29 April: to start reviewing, click on a topic name below, then click the Start your review button. If a link is inactive, your school doesn't have the topic.

Safety Checking
At Te Kura o Te Pāroa, we have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our students under the Children's Act 2014, Education and Training Act 2020, and Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. One of the ways we meet this responsibility is by carrying out safety checking to limit the risk of harm to students. Safety checking involves a risk assessment of a person's suitability to have contact with our students.
Under the Children's Act 2014, the board of Te Kura o Te Pāroa is responsible for ensuring all children's workers employed or engaged by the school are safety checked before their employment or engagement begins, and then every three years. We may also safety check others as appropriate.
Who we safety check
We safety check core and non-core children's workers as required by the Children's Act. The Children's Act defines children's workers as those working in, or providing, a regulated service that may involve regular or overnight access to a child/children without a parent/guardian present. The board determines whether a children’s worker is a core or non-core worker at Te Kura o Te Pāroa based on their role. Part of the safety checking process involves police vetting.
We may use our safety checking procedures for others employed or engaged by the school (even if not required by the Children's Act), including those we are required to police vet under the Education and Training Act 2020 (Schedule 4). See Police Vetting.
How we safety check
The board or their delegate is responsible for completing the following safety checking within the required timeframes and before the person starts work at the school. We are mindful of potential or perceived conflicts of interest when carrying out safety checking. See Conflicts of Interest.
Record keeping
The school maintains a record of all safety checks and police vets, including the dates. We also keep records of assurances and risk assessment information if checks were conducted by others.
All safety checking information is kept confidential and managed according to our privacy and records retention policies. Records are kept securely for seven years from the date of the last action before being destroyed. See Privacy and School Records Retention and Disposal.
The principal assures the board that all children’s workers employed or engaged by the school have been safety checked before their appointment. The principal confirms that all children’s workers have been safety checked as required within 3 years of the previous check. See Self-Review and Board Assurances.
