Message from Superintendent Dr. Latrice N. Mumin
Greetings, CUSD Families!
Happy October!
I hope this message finds you well as we enter a new month. Tomorrow, we are observing Rosh Hashanah, and as a reminder, our schools and offices will be closed. On behalf of the CUSD school community, I send my warmest wishes to all who observe the holiday. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many of our schools will be hosting activities to help raise awareness and support this important international campaign. Keep an eye out for more school-specific activities to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month from your child’s school that you may have the opportunity to support. Additionally, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we encourage everyone to take time this month to reflect on and support efforts to end domestic violence in our communities.
Recent Events:
A few weeks ago, I had the honor of visiting the United Nations General Assembly in New York. I joined fellow superintendents representing the Center for School Study Councils at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Together, we discussed how to better support educator voices in promoting mental health in schools at the UN Brain Health Science Summit. Additionally, on September 18, I joined Receiver Nichols and other district leaders for a status hearing with Judge Dozer. I am happy to share that CUSD’s petition for the Amended Recovery Plan was approved. The plan, which outlines exit criteria, academic goals, and strategic initiatives, is available online here. I encourage you to take a moment to review these important documents.
Homecoming Countdown!
We’re just 3 days away from Homecoming 2024, happening this Saturday, October 5! I can already envision the sea of orange and black, and I can’t wait to see and feel the energy as we cheer on our football team. Be sure to visit chesterclippers.com for details on parking, tickets, and more. LET’S GO CLIPPERS!!!
I hope you enjoy this latest edition of Clipper Connection.
Happy National Principals Month!

Each day, they bring their passion, dedication, and expertise to ensure that our students, staff, and school communities thrive. Their commitment to creating safe, nurturing environments where students can learn and grow is truly inspiring.
Please join me in thanking them for their outstanding leadership and the positive impact they make in our district. Throughout the month, we will be highlighting each of our principals on our district’s platforms, so stay tuned for special posts celebrating their work.

ESA Gets Adopted by Subaru & Philadelphia Union
Last week, Edgmont Scholars Academy got a wonderful surprise from Subaru of America, Inc. and the Philadelphia Union—they’ve adopted every classroom from Pre-K to 8th grade!
This is the third year in a row that Subaru and the Philadelphia Union have teamed up with CUSD schools.
Along with the adoption, ESA received a $5,000 donation, gift boxes for over 40 staff members, and an extra $500 for each classroom to support learning and activities. A huge thank you to Subaru and the Philadelphia Union for their amazing support!
Celebrating our Senior Football Players & Cheerleaders
Last Saturday was Senior Day for our football team and cheerleaders, and it was a great experience! Our seniors were celebrated on the field, surrounded by family, friends, and lots of #CPride.
Despite the weather, it was the perfect opportunity to honor their hard work, dedication, and leadership throughout the season. Thank you to everyone who came out to support these amazing athletes and cheerleaders!
