RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Hello Mustang Nation,
I hope that this newsletter finds you all doing well and settling into your summer vacation time. We certainly are experiencing an impressive wave of summer weather recently. I am looking forward to some slightly cooler temperatures and LESS humidity!
Our Annual Parent Verification through the ParentVUE platform will be rolled out starting Monday, July 22 - more information on this process and an official welcome from Superintendent Dr. Marquis is forthcoming. Student course schedules will be visible starting on this date.
Our summer schedule continues to be fluid, and although we strive to be in the office open as much as possible, the best way to reach our administrative team is via email throughout the next several weeks.
The next installment of the MHS Student & Family Newsletter will be distributed by Friday, August 16 and will contain important information about our opening of school. Once we begin the school year these newsletters are created and distributed on a weekly basis.
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow
CAMPUS UPDATES
Library & Library Adjacent Classrooms: This space has undergone some huge changes already in the past few weeks. The long-past its prime carpet has been removed and new vinyl flooring has been installed in the library and all classrooms with entrances within the library. We will be ordering new furniture for the library space in the way of tables and chairs that match (hooray!) and a new circulation desk. We have also reallocated some space in the library for an additional classroom so none of our MHS staff are ‘traveling’ or sharing classroom space this coming year - the first time this has happened in many, many years. (Photos below)
Gymnasium Curtain: We have also installed a new rollup/rolldown curtain in the gymnasium - the new material and updated color helps to make the space look pretty slick. (Photos below)
Super-Modular Building: We are waiting on a final date for breaking ground (fingers crossed this month) for our four classroom modular building that will be located between our student parking lot and the baseball field. This project is possible through federal grant funding. This project will take 5-6 months to complete and we are tentatively planning to occupy this space in January of 2025. Although completion is many months away, the project will impact our student parking lot with materials and equipment occupying spaces closest to the baseball field. We have plans for alternative parking for select students in the front of the building when necessary.
Main Office Closure: The Main Office will be closed on Thursday, August 1 and Friday, August 2, however other parts of the building will be accessible.
Gymnasium Closure: The gym will be closed from Friday, August 2 - Sunday, August 11 for surface work.
Mustang Time Preferences
Our Mustang Time at MHS is taking some shifts this coming school year and we are creating some themed opportunities for students to select as their preference for this 20 minute block. The link below will allow you to review these opportunities and select your preference so we can build these rosters. If you have already responded, feel free to disregard!
