Essentials Boot Camp to End the Year at Smith
Our 4th Grade Teachers call it “5th Grade Boot Camp” and the kids love it! During TEAM Time at the end of every day in June students are put in groups and rotate through essentials stations. At each station the group must read the directions, complete a physical PE requirement (burpees, sit ups, stretches), and then answer six questions based on the ELA or Math essentials. This is a fun way to review important material before heading off to 5th Grade at Randall next year!

Notes from the Board of Education
Seal of Biliteracy Presentation: Kelly Chapman celebrated our 8 students who achieved the Seal of Biliteracy this spring. Three students presented a project in French and five in Spanish. Congratulations to the hard working recipients of this honor!
Paul Hansen: Is a representative for the NYS Student Advisory Council and he shared the projects the council is working on. He is a great representative for Cortland as well as students across New York State. We are so proud of his participation on this council! He was awarded a Tiger Paw for his leadership on this council and he is pictured below receiving the award from Ms. Swanson.
Special Education Program Review: Our Special Education Program Review team outlined great strengths and areas for growth within the department. They plan to provide further professional development on inclusive models as well as education for students and parents regarding the IEP process and goals. The team also plans to continue researching the continuum of services and make further recommendations for improvement next year as well. The team's passion for ensuring high levels of learning for all students was inspiring!
Science Program Review: The Science Program Review team presented recommendations that they would focus a new effort on vertical alignment of the science curriculum K-12. Their energy around collaboration between our elementary and secondary science teachers was exciting!
Budget Update: Thank you voters for approving the Cortland Enlarged City School District Budget on June 20, 2023. This will allow the district to move forward with important funding for the 2023-2024 school year. Thank you for your support!
