Handbook Reminders
Winter is upon us! Colorado weather fluctuates throughout the day, so please send your child(ren) to school prepared with layers! Please see our Family-Student Handbook for details on cold and inclement weather. Highlights: It is expected that students well enough to be in school are well enough to participate in all activities, including outdoor recess. Generally, outdoor recesses will be held if the temperature is 15◦ or above.
Book Study: "Anxious Generation" for K-8 Staff and Parents
High Plains is offering a book study for all K-8 Guardians and Staff! "Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt" explores the themes of anxiety in children and teens, fostering a supportive community to discuss strategies and insights. Please sign up by December 1st at this Sign up link. Participants will receive the book by December 15th.
Meeting & Reading Schedule (approx. 90 min. discussion sessions):
January 9 Meeting: Have Read Chapters 1-3
January 30 Meeting: Have Read Chapters 4-6
February 6 Meeting: Have Read Chapters 7-9
February 27 Meeting: Have Read Chapters 10-12
March 13 Meeting: Have Read Chapters 13-Conclusion
Catered food will be provided at each meeting and participants, after full completion of the book study, will receive a small token of appreciation for their participation.
Immunizations (exemption date 11/22)
Friendly reminder from the High Plains health office. November 22nd is the student exclusion date for non-compliant immunization records. Please contact the health office at 970-679-9808 if you have questions regarding your child's shot records. Records can be viewed on your parent portal.
Family Climate and Culture Survey
Our annual TSD Family and Community Climate and Culture Survey is open until Nov. 15th. This survey gives us important feedback that will be used to help us achieve the goals of our Strive 2025 Strategic Plan and ensure an Inclusive and Supportive Culture throughout Thompson School District and High Plains School. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey, we would greatly appreciate it. You can click on this link to take the survey for your child's school. You can then do it again for children you have at other schools.
Social Awareness
11/11 and 11/14 - Our school believes in promoting mental health, well-being, and success in school and life. The theme for this month is SOCIAL AWARENESS. Here are a few challenges to try over the next few days to improve your sense of SOCIAL AWARENESS, and to be the best Bison you can be!
Show empathy when a friend is sad or upset.
Volunteer your time to help others.
Notice and respect others’ personal space.
Celebrate differences and diversity.
Apologize when you make a mistake.
Philo Food Drive
Student Ambassadors are partnering with Philo to collect nonperishable food items. The food drive has started and will end December 5th. The need is great this year and every little bit helps. In particular the following are so helpful: Cereal, Canned Meat, Peanut Butter, Baking Mixes, Canned Fruit and Veggies, Soup/Broth, Rice, Pasta, Dried Stuffing, Pie Crust and filling, Juice, Coffee/Tea, Hot Chocolate, Snacks, Condiments, Personal Hygiene, Toiletries, All Baby Products.
Boxes are located outside of each classroom and will be collected weekly by student ambassadors. Thank you for helping to contribute to those in our local community!
