LMS Newsletter
December 2024
Message from the Principal
Lakeridge Families,
We hope all of our students and families had the opportunity to enjoy Thanksgiving break. December marks a special time to reflect on our students’ growth as well as celebrate highlights and accomplishments so far this school year. It is amazing to see how much our students have grown both academically and socially over the past few months. Incoming 6th graders who were very nervous about middle school are confidently cruising the campus and our 8th graders are edging closer to high school maturity every day.
As we prepare to close out the 2024 calendar year, we are working extremely hard to keep our students engaged in school both academically and socially. This is a critical time in classes as teachers are collecting evidence of learning through cumulative projects and assessments. Students will also be taking the MAP Assessment in both Reading and Math. These scores are used as a data point for future class placement. For 8th graders these scores will also be an important data point for high school class placement next year. On the social front, our second spirit week kicks off December 9-13 which wraps up with our Winter Dance event.
As we look forward to the upcoming holiday season and the excitement of a new year, it may become challenging for students to stay focused on the last few weeks of school. Please take time to reinforce with your child the importance of having a strong end to the semester and showing their Hawk PRIDE every day. Our students and staff have been working hard this year, and I’m looking forward to a positive and successful finish to 2024.
From all the staff at LMS, we hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to seeing you back in school on January 6, 2025! Here is some important information for you to know. As always, we encourage you to contact us at any time if you have questions.

If your child is being picked up early:
You must come to the main office to pick-up your child. Students are not permitted to leave the dance early without a guardian signing them out. Bring I.D.
Make sure your student knows what time to meet you at the main office to be checked-out. It is very difficult to find students during the dance.
The dance is over at 4:00. All students must be picked up by 4:30 PM at the very latest.

Attendance Awareness
Let's Keep the Momentum Going!
Post-Thanksgiving Attendance Matters
We hope you had a restful and joyful Thanksgiving break with your loved ones! As we transition back to school, we want to remind you of the importance of maintaining regular attendance throughout the remainder of the year. Good attendance is key to your child's academic success, and returning strong after the break can help keep up the positive momentum they've built so far.
Here’s why regular attendance is so important:
Consistent Learning: Every school day counts! When students miss school, they miss out on valuable learning experiences that build upon each other.
Positive Habits: Showing up on time and ready to learn helps establish strong routines, responsibility, and self-discipline.
Stronger Social Connections: Being in school allows students to continue building relationships with their teachers and classmates.
Tips to Help Your Child Return to School After the Winter Break:
Plan Ahead: Set a routine before school resumes to ensure your child is well-rested and ready to jump back into learning in the coming new year.
Stay Organized: Remind your child to check their homework calendar and prepare homework or projects they may need to bring back.
Promote a Positive Attitude: Encourage excitement about returning to school by discussing what they look forward to and the goals they want to achieve in the coming weeks.
We understand that there may be challenges, especially during this busy season, but maintaining strong attendance is a team effort, and your support is crucial! Together, we can help your child succeed academically and develop important lifelong habits.
Let’s finish the year strong—attendance matters!
HIV/AIDS Prevention Curriculum- Parent Curriculum Review Night
Tuesday, Dec 10 | 4:30 - 6:00 pm
Washington State law requires that every student receives HIV/AIDs prevention education in grades 5 through 12. Because this unit covers sensitive topics, Washington State law and SBLSD board policy require that parents are provided the opportunity to preview these lessons.
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District (SBLSD) is hosting a curriculum night for families to preview the HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum for students enrolled in the following:
2nd semester 8th grade Skills for Life (HIV/AIDS) and
9th grade Health classes (Health content).
The Curriculum will be available for preview. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to understand the health content for students currently enrolled in 8th grade Skills for Life or 9th grade Health classes, preview teaching materials and ask questions about the resources used in the classroom.
Parent Review Night
December 10, 2024 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Sumner-Bonney Lake School District Administration Building, Board Room
Parents wishing to exclude their child from the Sexual Health curriculum required by our state must preview this curriculum and sign an exclusion form.
Additionally, there will be another opportunity in the spring for families of 6th-12th graders who will study this Health-related content during 2nd semester.
