A Message from the Superintendent
Dear Members of the AUSD Community,
Whether it's the cultural, religious or historical aspects of the holiday season that your family embraces and celebrates, the holidays will be different in 2020. The far reach of the pandemic and its impact on practically everyone's everyday life has caused great suffering for many people, particularly for those among us who have experienced loss or tragedy.
With many of our hospitals and health systems stretched beyond their capacity due to the current surge of COVID-19, some of the holiday traditions that have always been a source of comfort may be absent in 2020 so that we can all remain safe. But that doesn't mean that the "light" that the holidays represent and bring into our lives has to be any dimmer. Like everything else in 2020, we will make the best of it. On behalf of the Board of Education and the entire Alvord Unified School District, may you find peace, love, and happiness this holiday season. Look for my next message and newsletter on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
December 17 marks the end of the first semester. Report cards will be available starting December 21 on the Aeries Parent Portal here. Students begin the second semester remotely on Monday, January 4, 2021. Second semester schedules will be available via Aeries starting December 31. Principals are in the process of informing students/parents of second semester changes. We will honor all student/parent requests for either virtual or hybrid.
Regarding opening for in-person instruction for students and staff in the hybrid program, we will assess the conditions as soon as we return in January to determine if it's safe to reopen our campuses on our planned date, January 19, 2021. To reopen for in-person instruction, Riverside County would have to be out of the Purple Tier and the Southern California Region's Stay Home Order would have to no longer be in effect.
In closing, I hope that we all can find the strength to finish strong this last week of the first semester before taking a break from our computers and devices, and shift our focus to our families, friends and a future full of hope.
Stay healthy. Stay positive. Be well.

Allan Mucerino
