A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL JONES
A SIMPLE RESOURCES FOR OUR LANGUAGE LEARNERS
Sometimes the simplest tools go the longest way. We know that many of our students do well with learning with pictures and with music. Why not give students a “language toolbox,” It is a notebook full of pages of illustrated vocabulary words organized by theme that students can use as a reference. This is like a simplified version of an illustrated dictionary that younger ELLs can look through by theme to see vocabulary related to the colors, days of the week, classroom items, family members, and so on. Make it fun for them to help make and decorate. Put these pages in plastic page protectors inside a binder for each student to flip through quickly. They can pull it out to help them fill in missing vocabulary when they write or as an easy reference whenever they need it.

COUNSELORS CORNER BY GALINDO AND RALEY
KSA RESOURCES AND TOOLS
KSA testing will soon be upon us! Counselors want to share with you some tools on test taking strategies to be implemented and gone over during advisory time. We want to prepare students with test taking strategies they can implement during test time.
KSA scores from the previous year are linked into the google slide document for both elementary and middle. Please ensure that you are working with students on navigating the TestNav site and creating familiarity of the tools and functions that are housed within the testing platform. Test familiarity before the test is key to ensuring our students are successful!
A goal setting script has been created and printed and has been placed in your mailbox. Please use that script as you meet with student to goal set for KSA. We are hoping that this script will create meaningful conversations between you and your students, please feel free to add additional questions if you feel the need.
Link to the google slides are HERE
Elementary script can be found HERE
Middle script can be found HERE
Please ensure that you are becoming familiar with KSA logistics shared by Ms. Galindo two weeks ago HERE. It has all the information you need to become familiar with our building wide logistics during KSA.
***Please be on the lookout for a calendar invite from Ms. Galindo on going over what accommodations with look like for testing buddies. Additionally, our dry run date. Those dates and times will be shared with you soon.
PERSONALIZED LEARNING DAY
ATTENDANCE DOCUMENT AND LETTERS
We are coming up on another PLD Day, April 28th. Below are sign up list for students you're inviting to PLD day. You should each be inviting 8-10 students, including those that are in Spartan Academy. As you're thinking about students to invite, we want this to be used as a day for personalized instruction, not necessarily just remediation. Think about your students who are listed as being "on the bubble," need to be challenged, preparing or presenting their defenses, or needing enrichment.
Please communicate with families and have your students on this list by Monday, April 24th so that we can let our cafeteria staff know and prepare for the day. There is a letter below that you can send home or send to parents on Dojo. A related arts schedule for the day will be forthcoming. Reach out if you need any additional support. Thank you for all that you do!
