October 20, 2024
We had a fantastic short week at school, and I wanted to take a moment to express how proud I am of our students. Their behavior on our field trip to the fire department was outstanding, and they represented our school with great pride. The firefighters were impressed with their attentiveness and curiosity!
Looking ahead, I am excited about our upcoming Begin with the End in Mind Career Day. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our Cubs to explore different career paths and dream about their futures, all while building leadership skills and setting goals.
As always, I look forward to seeing our Cubs bright and early in the morning, ready for another great week of learning and growth.

Upcoming Events and Information
Title I Fall Conferences
Every year, Crosswell Elementary has fall and spring conferences. Your child's teacher should be in contact very soon about scheduling a fall conference time with you. These conferences are very important as teachers will discuss your child's academic progress (grades, i-Ready data, etc.), behavioral progress so far, and any upcoming events this year. This is a great time for you to ask questions and discuss your child's needs. Please be on the look out for info about conferences!
YAMS Application
Students in grades 3-5 are encouraged to sign up for YAMS at Crosswell! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students. Applications (see button below) are due to Mrs. Gillespie by Friday, October 25.
Free Internet through T-Mobile
Click the button below for more information and the opportunity to apply for this initiative! SDPC participates in the community eligibility program for meals so our students should qualify for this free service.

Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind
This month's habit is Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind. This habit focuses on how we have to think ahead and plan for our futures. With this habit, we think about who we want to be and how our actions have consequences that impact our futures. When thinking about this habit, ask yourself, "What do I want to accomplish? Who do I want to be? What do I want to be when I grow up? What do I want to become better at?" We will focus on creating personal goals as a family while practicing this habit!

The Reading Rope- Supporting Students with Reading at School and Home📘
The Reading Rope: Sight Recognition
Sight Recognition is the ability to read words automatically and accurately without having to sound them out. Sight words and High Frequency words (sometimes called flash words) are the same kind of words. These words students have to memorize because they do not follow phonics' rules. With LETRs and HMH, there are Heart Words which differ from Sight/High Frequency in that students must learn the rule before learning the word "by heart". The point of sight recognition is NOT for students jus to memorize words. See below for some ways to practice sight and heart words! See below ways to practice these words at home!

Cub Tales at CWE!
Crosswell is excited to partner, again, with United Way of Pickens County to provide our Cub Tales' Program! During this time, we follow the Palmetto Basics (see link below) to help families provide enriching opportunities for students through literacy. The Basics are 5 fun, simple, and powerful ways that every parent and caregiver can give every child a great start in life! These basics are simple and for everyone and are based on decades of research! Join us for Cub Tales!
