Principal Message
Hello Laker Families!
Wow—what a fantastic start to fall! Our classrooms are alive with learning, friendships are growing stronger, and we're using data to help every student reach new heights. The energy around EHE is amazing, and we’re seeing so much growth and excitement in our students every day!
A big shout out to our amazing PTA, because our first Fall Family Movie Night was a huge hit! It was so great to see so many of you there, enjoying the evening together. We can’t wait for the next one! I also want to give a big shout-out to all the families who rolled up their sleeves for our Fall Clean-Up Day last weekend—you made our school grounds look incredible, and we appreciate you so much!
A quick reminder: ballots have hit mailboxes! Make sure to take a look and don’t forget to flip them over—Proposition 1 is on the back. Your voice matters, and we encourage everyone to vote!
This newsletter is packed with all kinds of great info—including details on our upcoming Fall Dress-Up Day, Veterans Day celebrations, and more exciting events happening at EHE. We’re so lucky to have such an amazing community, and we’re grateful for all the ways you continue to support our school.
Thank you for being part of the EHE family—let’s keep the momentum going!

Dress Up Spirit Day
On October 31st, we will be having an EHE Dress Up Spirit Day! All students are invited to join in the fun by dressing up in a costume, favorite outfit, or creative attire! Whether you want to celebrate a favorite character, express your unique style, or honor a cultural tradition, we welcome you to participate!
Please remember:
- Costumes should be school-appropriate and not too scary for our younger students.
- No masks, face paint, or weapons of any kind.
- Costumes should not hinder students independence or learning
We look forward to seeing everyone’s creativity and celebrating together as a school community!
Check Your Mail
It’s the talk of towns across the country — the Nov. 5 general election. Check your mailbox this week for your ballot, along with SBLSD’s brochure with details about Proposition 1.
The loaded ballot includes items at the federal, state and county levels. To see the district’s Proposition 1, turn your ballot over and read to the bottom.
If you’re not yet registered to vote, there’s still time (Oct. 28 deadline):
Online at votewa.gov
By mail with voter registration form
In person at Pierce County Elections Office
Ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day or placed in a ballot drop box by 8 pm on Election Night.
Veterans Day Assembly
Veterans Day is a time for us Lakers to come together and celebrate the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices made by the men and women who have served in our armed forces. We owe so much to these heroes, and it's important that we take the time to reflect on their contributions.
This year, our talented music teacher, Mrs. Wallitner, will be creating a special slideshow to honor Veterans in our Laker community. We invite you to help us make this tribute even more personal by submitting pictures of your family members, friends, or loved ones who have served. Please take a moment to click the link below, fill out the form, and upload your photos. ONE service member per form please. The form can be submitted multiple times. All submissions are due November 5th
Let's show our gratitude to those who have given so much for our freedom.
In addition to the slideshow, we are looking for students who are part of a program or club that participates in the posting of colors to help present the flags during the ceremony. If your child is involved in such a program and would like to partake in the assembly in this way, please complete the survey below.
Community Work Party
Last Saturday turned out to be the perfect fall day for our community garden clean-up party! We harvested corn and pumpkins, tackled some serious weeding, enjoyed delicious soup, and, most importantly, came together as a school community. Huge thanks to everyone who pitched in and gave up their Saturday to make EHE the best place to be!
