Youth services library staff are invited to “Imagine Your Story” in preparation for Summer Reading Program 2020. We’ll cover program planning nuts and bolts, partnership/outreach opportunities, thematic resources, and highlight hidden gems from the Collaborative Summer Library Program manual. Time will be reserved for group discussion and idea sharing.

Creating 360 Degree Videos

As libraries expand their use of virtual reality, interest in creating content for virtual reality rather than simply consuming it has been growing. Whether created in conjunction with community organizations, used as an educational program for teens, or offering highlights of the library itself, 360 degree video is an exciting potential format for libraries to explore. David Sok, IT manager at the Providence Community Library, will take you through the process of creating 360 videos yourself, from assessing the equipment, filming, editing video in Adobe Premiere Pro and making videos available to your community via VR.
Records Management for Public Libraries

All Rhode Island public libraries are subject to records retention schedules for public records created and received in the course of business. LG13: Public Library Records is the schedule for the retention and disposition of public library records. Understanding how to use state records schedules will keep you organized and reduce the amount of space needed for storage.
National Digital Newspapers Program

Digital access to historic newspapers is key to patron research! A recent federal grant awarded to the Rhode Island Historical Society (RIHS) and the Providence Public Library (PPL) will greatly expand the number of Rhode Island newspaper titles freely available statewide while ensuring the preservation of these invaluable resources.
Adult Programming Favorites and Flops

Planning library programs for adults is an exciting but often unpredictable business! Join fellow adult services librarians for our annual sharing session to discuss your greatest hits and discuss what magic ingredients seem to go into your favorite, best-attended and most well-received programs. Acknowledging that we can learn as much from our failures as our successes, you are also encouraged to share a programming "flop" with the group so that we can use the collective wisdom of the group to imagine how that program might be reworked into a hit! This session will also include an overview of the new OLIS Library Presenter Directory.
Access to Public Records Act and the Open Meetings Act

Join your public library colleagues to learn about, or refresh your understanding of, the library's and its Board of Trustees' legal responsibilities for adhering to the state laws for access to public records and open meetings. Participants will learn how to determine when the Open Meetings Act applies to library board meetings and when an executive session is appropriate. Other statutory requirements, such as posting notices, amending agendas, and maintaining minutes will be discussed. Frequent trouble areas will be reviewed.

Google Analytics offers a vast array of information about who is visiting your library's website and how they interact with your content. This webinar will offer a basic introduction into getting started with Google Analytics for your library’s website and will cover topic such as: initializing Google Analytics on your site; viewing basic statistics; learning about your users; eliminating your own IP address from page view counts; and creating custom reports.
Measure Your Impact with Project Outcome

Would you like to implement outcome measurement in your library? Join us for this Project Outcome Regional Training, a half-day, in-person workshop. At this workshop, a Project Outcome trainer will facilitate the planning process for implementing outcome measurement using Project Outcome tools. You will learn how to deploy the Project Outcome standardized outcome surveys in your library, collect and use resulting data, and leverage the project's support network to ensure successful adoption. Come see how outcome measurement can drive change, influence decision making, and demonstrate the impact of their library’s programs and services on the community.
Decoding and Disrupting Dominant Narratives

Have you been trying new technology instruction models or offering different digital literacy classes at your library? Have you been sticking with the old standby classes because they continue to fill up? Have you offered technology programs you thought your community would love, only to have very low turnout? Join fellow library staff who provide digital literacy classes and technology instruction for this sharing session, where you will hear about what other libraries are offering, get feedback on your programs, and discuss your successes and challenges. Please come prepared to share about at least one program you have offered with the group.
Stepping Over Print Barriers

How can I best support someone who cannot access print materials?
This is the question that many librarians, educators, and other service providers ask when they encounter people with print disabilities. Fortunately, there are many solutions that will provide those with reading barriers independence and the power of literacy! Join us to discuss how different websites, E-Books, electronic book readers and other accessibility options (like those built in on smart phones) can break down these barriers. We will also provide information on applications such as Read2Go, Seeing AI, Voice Dream Reader, and BARD.
