Titans' Times
Week of Sept. 30- Oct. 4, 2024
NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
As a school community, we recognized the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Friday, September 27th. Our prayers for this last week have included information about the Calls to Action from the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
In 2008, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed. Their job was to listen to stories about residential schools and write down important things we can do as Canadians to learn from our mistakes. These are the TRC's 94 Calls to Action. The 6 Calls to Action below are some actions we can help students learn.
On Friday, we gathered as a school community in a spirit of prayer and reflection around the topic of truth and reconciliation and understanding more about the impact of residential schools. Then, the students returned to their classes for a discussion about what students should feel when at school. Students wrote words on an orange feather that were important to them, creating a visual around the theme of "At School, ALL children should feel...." The words of are now up in the main hallway as a visual of remembrance for our students to reflect on.
We always remember the children and that every child matters.

Confidence Over Comparison
Comparing ourselves to others is a normal part of life, but how do we make sure our children can admire things about others while still recognizing how special and unique they are?
We often hear “He’s so much bigger than me”, “She’s way smarter than me”, or “She looks way better in that outfit than I would”...
Over time, comparison can become a second language for children. How can we help?
When you take a moment to point out your child's strengths or things they do well, you’re giving them a little mirror to see their own special spark. Every time you say, 'Hey, I noticed this about you,' you're helping them build a stronger sense of who they are.
By taking this extra little step, the more they will see their own shine, and the less they'll look around and compare it to someone else's. Click here for a special poster you can print out for your child!
