Message from the Principal
Dear Corbett Families and Students,
As members of our school community, it’s deeply concerning when we learn that our district became the target of a threat of violence. This grim reality is not unique to us; many schools across our state and across the nation are facing similar fears, highlighting a pervasive issue that demands our attention as we strive to ensure a safe environment for our students and staff. I was thankful to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, who investigated the threat from a non-Corbett student, and has been supportive with their increased presence on our campus. I am particularly grateful to our high school students who came forward when they learned of the threat. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and it’s essential that we remain partners to foster an environment of support and vigilance.
However, amidst these challenges, it is vital to remember the spirit of our school community. Our student leadership class planned a “Cowboy Carnival” homecoming dance, and they are excited to put on the first “Movie on the Lawn” family movie night on the football field. See the details below for the movie night.
The midterm deadline is October 3rd, and you will have an opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss your student’s progress during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday evening, October 10th. Keep in mind that the school calendar is different from past years: there is no school on October 7th or 8th.
Let’s continue to channel our energy into reinforcing our connections and commitment to our students.
Thank you for your support,
Kathy Childress
High School Principal
Midterm Ends Thursday 10/3

CHS Robotics Update
Corbett High School Robotics is ramping up for their competitive season this year. They have two pre-season tournaments they will be participating in this fall. The first is Saturday, October 19th at Skyview High School, and the second is Saturday, December 14th at Catlin Gabel School. These events are open to spectators. Come out and support your high school robotics team! Competing each year is a huge logistical and financial undertaking.
We wouldn’t be able to have such a strong program without the generous support from our community. If you would like to see how you can help us out this season (volunteering, business partnerships/sponsorships, or donations), please send us an email at robotics@corbett.k12.or.us.
CHAMPS Senior Meeting on Monday, 9/30!
CHAMPS will be hosting a senior assembly on September 30th during Break and Homeroom (a.9:30am) in the Gym. Sounds like there will be some great treats and they hope to gather important insights from our seniors. Class of 2025 make sure you attend!
We are grateful to the senior parents whose ongoing fundraising efforts make senior celebrations a reality. Follow CHAMPS on social media to keep up to date on all things Corbett 2025! They have a variety of treats and gifts for purchase that benefit our seniors.

Senior Corner
We are officially in the swing of senior year! Ms. Pekny, our school counselor, is here to support you and your family every step of the way. We’ve created a google classroom for all seniors and their families to access resources and information about this year. Look out for an invite to join the classroom on your own!
Ms. Pekny will be speaking with students individually this fall to discuss plans for after high school, whether that looks like attending a college, going into the trades, or going straight into the workforce.
If you have any questions at the moment, please reach out to Ms. Pekny at spekny@corbett.k12.or.us and she’ll be happy to help!

Let's Go Cards!
Please join CHS Men's Soccer as we honor our Seniors - Winger Jackson Gilbert, Goalkeeper Zach Fredericks and Team Captain/Center Midfielder Jayson Minsker - on Tuesday, October 1st at 5:30 pm. Let's pack the stands to celebrate their contributions through the years to our growing men's soccer program. Game time is 6 pm against the Horizon Christian Hawks.
Men’s Soccer faced stiff competition last week. Both JV and varsity dropped road games to Westside Christian on September 17th. The teams battled back two days later, but JV couldn’t overcome OES JV2 and Varsity fell to Riverdale. Despite these losses, the Varsity team is ranked 17th out of 66 teams in the state! Next Up: Tues, 10/1 JV vs. Gladstone JV2 at 4 pm and Varsity vs Horizon Christian. For more info, check out our Instagram at Corbett.mens.soccer.
Cross Country: This year was the Cards’ first trip to the Jack and Jill Invitational, but it’s likely not the last. The team posted 16 personal or season records as part of great individual and team success. The Women’s Varsity team placed 4th out of 18 schools. Among schools of like size or even twice the size, the Cardinal women were the best. Zevi became the 2nd fastest tenth grade man and Vivi became the 3rd fastest tenth grade woman for whom Corbett has records. Elaia, Emma and Claire became the 6th, 7th and 8th fastest ninth grade women on record. Next Up: The Cards will enjoy a well deserved bye week!
The Women’s Soccer team played tough against Westside Christian and Riverdale last week. The team took great shots, played active defense, and made great saves to protect our goal. Keep up that grit Cards! Next Up: The team will be on the road on Tues, 10/1 vs. Banks and Sat 10/5, vs. Sheridan/Willamina.
The Football team hosted Nestucca on Friday night in front of a packed Corbett Homecoming crowd. Although the Cards came up short in this one, they kept the fans energized until the end. The defense delivered big in the 4th quarter forcing a fumble in the red zone to flip the field. Way to stay with it Cards! Next Up: Friday, 10/4 @ Knappa 7pm
The Women's Volleyball team dominated in their single match of the week against Yamhill-Carlton. The Cards delivered their 7th sweep of the season not allowing their opponent to take a single set. The 5th ranked cards are now 5-0 in league and 9-1 overall. Next Up: On the road Mon, 9/30 @ Neah-Kah-Nie and Thurs, 10/3 @ Riverdale.
