Strategic Plan Steering Committee begins work on 2025-30 plan
With energy and purpose, the 2025-30 Strategic Plan Steering Committee started its work to shape the future of education in Blue Valley. On Sept. 10, the committee gathered for its first meeting, bringing together a diverse group of Blue Valley community members to begin the collaborative effort to guide Blue Valley Schools into the next five years.
Led by Superintendent Dr. Tonya Merrigan, the committee reviewed the district’s current goals, discussed key strengths and challenges and had thoughtful conversations about where Blue Valley is today and where we want to be in the future.
All members of the Blue Valley community are encouraged to take part in this important journey by participating in the Strategic Plan Survey. Our community’s needs and aspirations will help guide the direction of our schools. Those who have already engaged in the survey can also review and rate thoughts that have been shared by others.
For more information on the strategic planning process and to follow the work of the committee, visit the Strategic Plan webpage.
Board of Education approves name for new middle school
During the September 9 Blue Valley Board of Education meeting, board members approved the name “Wolf Springs Middle School” as the official name of the district’s new middle school. The school’s mascot is the Coyotes. Wolf Springs Middle is part of the Southwest feeder system and is located north of Wolf Springs Elementary. To create a cohesive brand and identity early in the design process, Blue Valley engaged students at Blue Valley Southwest and Aubry Bend Middle to gather suggestions for school names and mascot options. After a review by district administration, the recommendations were presented to the Board of Education for approval. Wolf Springs Middle is set to open in August 2026. View the district's Wolf Springs Middle School webpage to learn more about the project.
127 Blue Valley students earn Seal of Biliteracy
We are thrilled to celebrate 127 outstanding students who earned the Seal of Biliteracy from the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) during the 2023-24 school year. This achievement recognizes students who demonstrated proficiency in English and a second language. This year, a record 12 languages were tested!
Among the 127 students, 25 received a Gold Seal, distinguishing them as advanced low speakers in their second language. This remarkable achievement not only provides our students with a nationally recognized credential but also highlights the diversity within our district and underscores the academic rigor of our world language programs. This is a huge celebration for our students, dedicated teachers, world language department and school district. Thank you to our community for your continued support as these students pursue their passion for world language.
