A Note from Mr. Shaughnessy
Had to throw this cute picture out there for all to see! This is Mr. Shaughnessy in 1st or 2nd Grade!
Thank you for your efforts with attendance. Kids are showing up more regularly. It really helps our kiddos to learn when they are present and their classmates are present!
This month, we are going to need a lot of help with our outdoor area. I am committed to improving our physical space for our kids. In April, I have organized 3 events. The first happens on April 12th. This is a Friday where volunteers will work with the Freedom Farmers of Olympia High School to re-build the garden beds in the garden. The second happens on April 13th. This is a Saturday set aside to redo our school garden and get it ready for planting with students. The third happens on 19th. This is a Friday where we have 60 middle school students coming from Thurgood Marshall Middle School to help remove invasive species from our wooded area of the playground.
I have a contractor scheduled to begin re-construction of the observation platform over the seasonal wetland on the playground. That work should be completed by the end of May. Once that is done, the Sierra Club will come in and help me think about how to create classroom spaces in the woods, along with create a trail system for students to access.
So many fun things happening. Thank you for your amazing support of our school.
Volunteers Needed!!!
We have a variety of outdoor work projects and we need your help! Kids are welcome to join in on the fun. The sign-up Genius below is for the work party to re-build the garden planters, the work party to bring new soil and wood chips into the garden area, and for the ivy removal project in the wooded area to help make the area accessible for kids again.
Here is the link to the sign-up genius.
Thank you in advance for your support of our school.
STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math) Night Returns @ LP Brown!
All families are invited to our STREAM night on April 18th! This event runs 5:30 - 7:30 PM with a free dinner for all! This is not an event you'll want to miss!!
Families who live near Limited Lane and Courtside apartments will also be provided with Intercity Transit options to ride the bus- look for the LP Brown Eagle on the bus too!
Mark your calendars and join us on Thursday, April 18th for the best night of your life!
Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (4th and 5th Grade Only)
4th and 5th grade parents all received notification about our requirement to teach the Comprehensive Sexual Health Education Curriculum this Spring. I do not have dates scheduled for this instruction, but it will likely happen towards the beginning of June for both grade levels.
Parents are able to opt their child out of the entire curriculum, or individual lessons. Here is a copy of the opt out form. Simply fill it out and turn it into the main office.
If you would like to view and review the curriculum, I will have it available for viewing on Tuesday, April 16th from 5:00-6:00 PM (Right before the PTO Meeting). Feel free to stop on in if you would like to review the curriculum ahead of time.
Recess and Lunch with Parents
In an effort to create space for parents, we have selected one day per month to encourage parents and caregivers to come and have lunch with their kids. This month, we selected Friday, April 12th. In May, we selected Friday, May 3rd. Here are the lunch and recess times for your reference:
- Kinder and First Grades: 10:25 - 11:05
- 2nd and 4th Grades: 11:10 - 11:50
- 3rd and 5th Grades: 11:50 - 12:30
If you want to purchase a school lunch, you can do that in the main office when you arrive. The cost is $4.75 per adult. We can accept exact change and take credit card payments. You are also welcome to bring lunch with you on that day.

Boosterthon and Running Club
Our annual Boosterthon is right around the corner with our kick off date being May 17th and the event date being May 30th. In preparation for this event, we'd love to kick off Run Club.
