The Weekly Update #4
September 27th, 2024
Dear Wildcat Families,
Happy October, everyone! It’s hard to believe that we’re already in full swing this fall, but here we are, with classrooms buzzing, activities rolling, and leaves turning! Our students have hit the ground running, and it’s been incredible to see the excitement and hard work happening in every corner of the school. As the crisp autumn air settles in, we’re approaching the end of the first grading period on October 25th, so it’s a great time to check in on progress and celebrate accomplishments. Parent-Teacher Conferences are also around the corner on October 17, October 22, and November 14, and a scheduling link will be shared soon. These meetings can be especially helpful for students who may be struggling. Let’s make this season one of great success as we prepare for fall festivities and the busy months ahead!

PBIS Survey
Showing PRIDE at KMS (PBIS system)
In an effort to continuously improve our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, we are seeking feedback from our families. We value your input on how well our PBIS system supports students' positive behaviors and contributes to a safe and welcoming school environment. This survey will also gather thoughts on the celebrations we hold, such as our popular "Day of Awesome" at the end of the year and the stamp charts students use to earn raffle tickets. Your feedback is crucial in helping us ensure that our PBIS program is meaningful and engaging for all students. Thank you for your partnership!

CAMP NUHOP FUN
We’re thrilled to share that our students had another successful and unforgettable experience at Camp Nuhop down in Mohican! From team-building activities to outdoor adventures, the students embraced every challenge and made memories to last a lifetime. A huge thank you goes out to all the chaperones—both staff and parents—who volunteered their time and energy to make this trip possible. Your support ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, and we couldn’t have done it without you!
MAPS testing
Over the last couple of weeks, your child took a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on their chromebook in Math, Reading, and Science. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique and adapt to your child’s responses to measure your child’s knowledge. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of where your child is on their learning journey— regardless of whether they are on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores in similar skills and topics and then plan instruction accordingly.
MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students in the same grade and subject with the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in grades 6-8 will take a growth test in the fall, winter, and spring. After each testing session, our students will do a Data Day here at KMS to review their individual results with the teacher and record information to share with families at home. Please be on the lookout for a data packet coming home Thursday evening, and please have your student return the Math, Reading, and Science graphic organizer pages to their first period teacher after you review and sign the sheet. Please note there is also an area for questions in case you have any!!
We are committed to partnering with our families in hopes to best support your child’s learning. If you have any additional questions about MAPS scores, please feel free to reach out!!
