Rock Your Socks Drive for World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day, which is observed on March 21 every year, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD, the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the 3 copies of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. On a chromosome chart, the chromosomes look similar to socks, which is where the idea for Rock Your Socks came from. On March 21 every year we rock our funky or mismatched socks to celebrate everyone’s differences that makes all who we are.
As a way to help everyone Rock Their Socks, we are collecting new, unused socks to support the People's Resource Center. Collection boxes for socks are located in all District 41 buildings. Thank you in advance for participating and donating socks! A special thank you to Board of Education Vice President Jason Loebach for coordinating Rock Your Socks every year in District 41.
Celebrating the Educator of the Year
District 41 Spanish Summer Camp - Save the Dates
Spanish Summer Camp is tentatively scheduled for July 11-15, 2022. The camp is designed to provide practice in Spanish and develop knowledge about cultures of some Spanish-speaking countries. The camp will be open to current District 41 elementary FLES and Dual Language students who are currently in grades k-5. More information about location, times, and the application process will be shared closer to the end of the school year.
DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM APPLICATIONS - KINDERGARTNERS 2022-2023
Applications of Interest for incoming kindergarteners to be considered for our Dual Language Program are now available! A Dual Language Parent Information video along with accompanying documents are posted on the District 41 Dual Language webpage. Parents are asked to view the video before completing the application process. The video is replacing the usual in-person meeting. All students must complete and submit an Application of Interest in order to be considered for the program, including siblings of current Dual Language students.
Read Across America at Forest Glen
All students at Forest Glen School are celebrating Read Across America Week this year in a fun and exciting way! This week, students will submit their reading minutes daily. Each minute translates into miles, and students will see how many times Forest Glen can travel across the mainland! First grade students will be reporting out the minutes and doing announcements around Read Across America each morning. Way to go, Forest Glen student readers!

Hadley Band Gets Scientific with Frog Sounds
The Hadley Jr. High 6th Period 6th Grade Band had an opportunity to partake in a scientific discussion for one of their spring concert pieces entitled Frogs by Randall D. Standridge. Dr. Allison Sacerdote-Velat, the Senior Director/Curator of Herpetology at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago, visited the 6th graders via Google Meets to speak about all things frogs, including their musical connections, local species and conservation efforts.
Students learned about mapping frog sounds on spectrograms and how it sounded in relation to instruments. The 6th graders then performed portions of Frogs by Randall D. Standridge for Dr. Sacerdote-Velat.
