DUE BY: APRIL 29TH
Earlier today, the process for parent input for next school year's classroom reorganization was sent to parents. This process is for K- 5th Grade parents. April 12, 2024
Dear Goodnoe Families,
As the end of the school year approaches, we at Goodnoe Elementary are beginning the formal process of creating class lists for the 2024-2025 school year. In Council Rock, the development of elementary classes and the assignment of teachers is a lengthy and complex process. We want to take this opportunity to help families understand the process and criteria utilized to create final class lists.
Our goal is to develop lists that consider the following factors: individual student academic needs, social characteristics, emotional factors, possible personality conflicts, and the number of students with specialized needs. For the 2024-2025 school year, the practice of the district permits parents to provide a submitted request to me describing the type of learning environment and instructional style they feel best fits the learning characteristics of their child.
Please note that requests for teachers by name will not be accepted. While we believe your feedback is critical to our process, this input should be precisely focused on the specific needs of your child. If you are concerned with a specific teacher as a consequence of your personal experience, feel free to contact me directly. Absent this, we will employ our process and do everything reasonably possible to position your child for success. Parent input will be considered as one of many important factors. As such, the final decision on all placements rests with the school team and may be different from the input provided by the parent.
Parent input must be submitted through this GES PARENT INPUT FORM Input will not be accepted after the deadline of Monday, April 29, 2024. We urge families to be proactive regarding this process and timeframe. If input is provided after the deadline, it will be too late to make sound changes to the class lists. Changes made after class lists are established could negatively impact another student’s placement or alter the balance of classrooms. Subsequently, input will not be considered after the deadline.
We appreciate your partnership and trust in the class placement process. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me at bfox@crsd.org
Sincerely,
Beth Fox

READING TIDBITS & TIPS
April is National Poetry Month. Poetry is a type of literature, or artistic writing, that attempts to stir a reader's imagination or emotions. The poet does this by carefully choosing and arranging language for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. Some poems, such as nursery rhymes, are simple and humorous. Share a favorite nursery rhyme of yours from when you were a child with your own child or children this month. You can also click on the link below to go to Reading is Fundamental. This site has wonderful poetry resources. Go to Genre on the left side of the screen and check the box that says Poetry. You can further sort by Grade Level and Theme and then choose poetry book titles that you think your child or children might like. Enjoy!
AUTISM AWARENESS/ACCEPTANCE MONTH
Goodnoe is excited to honor and celebrate Autism! Awareness/Acceptance Month during the month of April. April 2nd is the actual day but we are going to celebrate all month long! Currently, according to the CDC and the National Institute of Health 1 in 36 children have been identified with autism spectrum disorder. We are starting the month by having each student in the building color a hand that will create a bulletin board titled, “Unity Through Diversity: All Welcome”
Over the course of the month, we will be participating in a variety of activities:
Everyone is invited to take part in the special dress up days.
All students with their buddy classes, will read, discuss and complete an activity centered around the book “Everyone Belongs” by Heather Avis.
We will also share important facts about autism throughout the month, both on morning announcements and through our Good Morning Goodnoe show.
We are aware that there are different symbols and sayings that people are comfortable with using when discussing autism. Some people are comfortable with the puzzle piece, others prefer the infinity symbol. Some people prefer to use the terminology of autistic people while others are comfortable with people with autism. While we try to educate ourselves in each area, it is our hope to embrace and share acceptance of everyone no matter the symbols or terminology. We look forward to sharing these activities together to celebrate autism awareness and acceptance over the month of April.

DENTALS & PHYSICALS
Per Pennsylvania state requirements, the health office requires a current physical examination form and dental form for all new incoming students. Physical exams are also required for all students entering 6th grade and dental exams are required for all students entering 3rd grade. We can accept any exam completed as early as July 1, 2023, per state regulations. This would include dental examinations for current 2nd grade students and physical examinations for current 5th graders dated after 07/07/23. These state forms can be found at crsd.org and can be submitted to katie.engelhardt@crsd.org.

Our lost and found has accumulated many articles of clothing over the last several months. All items will be on display outdoors during Field Day.
PARENTAL CONTROLS FOR DEVICES
These days most children have access to an iPhone or an iPad, whether it is their own device or one belonging to their parents. However, this could lead to the children being exposed to inappropriate content, online predators, and inappropriate text messaging. Therefore, parents need to provide guidance and take precautions. The easiest way to keep track of your children and their phone usage is to monitor the device and text messages. We also strongly suggest disabling group messaging on your child’s phone or ipad, as many inappropriate conversations occur on this type of messaging, which quickly escalate into conflict and drama. If there are conversations that lead to highly inappropriate content or cyberbullying, your child can be held accountable for being part of the conversation.
Below are links to help you set up parental control for your child’s apple or android device.
NO DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 718 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#
