“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Teacher Highlight
These past two weeks I have seen the amazing work of our teaching staff. The dedication, passion and collaboration is commendable. The Hispanic Heritage Celebration is a collaborative effort with the guidance of Sra. Hernandez. Please let her know she is appreciated for her hard work. The event brings out the pride she has for the culture. We are fortunate to work with her.
Testing, Testing, Testing
We have completed the Beginning of the Year (BOY) testing. We would like to see all students succeed. With this data we will be making decisions on all students to strengthen their academic skills. If you have any questions about the testing, the results or the next steps please check in with your child’s teacher. Please feel free to come see me so we can talk data...I love to see decisions be made based on data.
Coffee and Conversation
Every third Friday of the month. Come in talk, good time to ask questions and get to know each other. The next one is on Friday, October 18th @ 8:15 or as soon as you drop off your child for school. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Volunteer spotlight!
The APC board would like to show our appreciation to our hardworking volunteers this year by having a volunteer spotlight in our newsletters. Volunteers who are chosen will receive a gift card as a thank you for all the hard work and dedication to our school! Nominations are open to all Fronteras staff, and names are drawn at random to be featured in the newsletter.
Ciji Porter - This is Mrs. Porter's 3rd year at Fronteras! She has a 4th grader and a kindergartener. You may recognize her as our amazing dismissal volunteer who has been helping our kindergarteners walk from their classroom out to you safely! Our kindergarteners love seeing Mrs. Porter walking in to their classroom with a big smile on her face. Thank you Mrs. Porter for everything you do!
Niall Linden - This is Mr. Linden's 3rd year at Fronteras as well! He has been such an amazing addition to bike day. He has brought a lot of knowledge and fun! We even had a HUGE success this week in 2nd grade! One of our students was able to switch from a strider bike to a pedal bike!!! We couldn't do it without you Mr. Linden!
Volunteer opportunities
Do you love to wrap?
We are in need of someone crafty who would like to decorate a box to hold the sleepers for Newborns in need. This can be a take home project! Please email - katrina.moller@matsuk12.us if you are interested in this project
Rabbit help
The rabbits are so adorable, but they are multiplying like... well... rabbits! They are digging under our portables 😭 We recently found out that they are also harboring some unwelcome visitors on their skin as well. If you have any live traps and are able to bring them to the school to help catch them and take them somewhere else, we would greatly appreciate it. We have a couple of traps out, but the more we have out, the faster we can get them out! Please see Mrs. Shawn!
Playground swings
Our playground swings need some TLC! All materials and supplies can be purchased by the school. Please see the front office if you are able to help with this.
Paper jam? Don't worry! We've got Mrs. Brown for that!
Sra. Riedel is in need of someone who loves to make copies! If you have the time to help her with this, please email her at virginia.riedel@matsuk12.us
P.E. volunteer opportunities
We will be outside often this next month. The gym will be used often for our performance practice. Please send in gear for the weather. It's time for layers, jackets, hats, gloves, warm pants, and rain gear when needed. We will start our soccer unit along with cultural games to celebrate Spanish Heritage month. 4th and up will have some time on skateboards too when the weather cooperates so please email Guin.Hill@matsuk12.us to set up a time/day. Students may bring their own soccer ball/soccer gear if they would like to but not necessary. We always accept soccer ball donations. If you would like to help us with being a "referee" or to join as another set of eyes and/or coaching, please see the sign up schedule. Optional- We do not "need" volunteers but you are invited to join us if you are interested or have special skills to share. If you are know a special cultural P.E. related game or skill you would like to share with a group, please sign up and schedule a day or time to come in! (Dancing, jump rope, special song/movement chant/dance from a Spanish speaking country. )
Recess monitoring and lunch help
We always need extra sets of hands on the playground or to give teachers lunch breaks. If you have your background check and volunteer form filled out, please contact Mrs. Shawn!
Morning drop off & Afternoon dismissal
- Parents, please stay in your vehicle. If you need to get out, please pull in to the parking lot. The left side of the drop off in the morning is a passing zone, and even with speed bumps, we still have parents flying by. It also slows the line down.
- SLOW DOWN - We have over 300 students that come to our school every day, let's keep them safe.
- Students must exit on to the sidewalk. The reason for this is because cars are still able to pass by on the drivers side and often do not see doors opening or our smaller students.
- Follow the directions of the traffic director, please don't run out in front of vehicles or go when you're being asked to stop. Think about the example you are setting for the little eyes watching you.
- Be kind and courteous.
- Remember that we will always accept traffic volunteers! If you'd love to wave the stop sign in the morning, or make some new best friends while walking kids down the hall during afternoon dismissal, please let the front office know.
