OMS DECA DAWG-MART
Looking for fun and trendy OMS merch? Otwell’s very own DECA DAWG-MART has you covered!
https://www.customink.com/fundraising/OMSDECADAWGMART
Otwell Marketing students and DECA members were tasked with designing OMS merch based on their own personal style + what their target audience (other OMS students & staff) would want to wear. Otwell students then voted on their favorites and the winning designs are now available for purchase through our online pop-up DAWG-MART site. As always, all proceeds earned through DAWG-MART will go towards OMS DECA initiatives, including competitions, field trips, and chapter events.
The online pop-up store will be open now through December 20. Upon checkout, you can choose to have your order shipped directly to you for a small fee or have your order delivered to OMS and distributed the 2nd week in January by DECA members.

6th Grade Information
Science: We will be taking our final summative for first semester next week on Geology Part 1. This will include layers of the Earth and plate tectonics. Students have notes and they will receive a study guide next week. Please encourage your student to review and prepare for their last summative of the semester. Check Infinite Campus for missing work. All work needs to be turned in by Friday, December 13th.
Advanced Science: Now that we have wrapped up our latest unit on geology, we will spend the next couple weeks working on our science fair projects. We will be researching the background for projects and creating our experimental design plan. We will not set up projects until after the holiday break. You can see this checklist for a timeline of completion. Please remember students cannot experiment on humans or with bacteria. The topic needs to be something they test and collect data on, not just research. Please let me know if you have any questions- I look forward to seeing what they can do!

Enrichment: This week our executive functioning skill is self-control. We have continued examining book reviews & evaluating their quality. Students have also been taught where & how to find quality book reviews.
ELA: Students have been learning about argumentative texts. We continue to identify the claim of a text, explain how the reasons connect to the claim, and determine if the claim is substantiated by evidence. We are also exploring the author's purpose and perspective of texts. Ask your child how they can identify the purpose of a specific text. They might surprise you! Continue to encourage Membean completion. We will have 1 more reading skills summative prior to the December break.
Advanced ELA: Advanced ELA students will continue analyzing elements of argumentative texts while also exploring the topic of recess in middle school. Students will read two articles and trace the author’s argument, claims, and evidence. They will also practice analyzing author’s purpose and perspective in these texts to prepare for the reading skills summative on December 18th-19th. In addition, students should continue their weekly Membean training. They will have a Membean semester one summative on Tuesday 12/17. The only way to prepare is to continue training!
