Mr. DeGenova -- One in a Million!
While the title may be a slight exaggeration 🙂, Mtn. View High School Teacher Ron DeGenova was recently selected as a recipient of the Alex Trebek Legacy Fellowship for the annual Television Academy (Emmy Awards) Foundation’s 2024 Media Educators Conference in October.
The Fellowship, established in 2021, provides financial assistance for eligible attendees, geared toward educators at minority-serving institutions and receives thousands of applications from media educators across the country. This year, Mr. DeGenova was one of twelve individuals selected.
In addition to teaching CTE Video Production at Mtn. View HS, Mr. DeGenova is an Adjunct Professor, and Film & Media Advisor for College of the Desert and is very excited for this opportunity and stated, “The connections and information that I will bring back to aid my students' growth will be phenomenal.”
Congratulations, Ron!!

GLORIA SOLORIO-VALENZUELA (Expanded Learning Site Administrator, Edward Hyatt World Language Academy) Ms. Solorio has definitely TRANSFORMED the ELOP after-school program at EHWLA! Since her hire, Ms. Solorio has brought so many wonderful opportunities to the program, such as Folklórico dancing, Aztec dancing, origami, crafts, cultural art projects, poetry and so much more. She has refocused the program to work on culture (which is one of Hyatt's three pillars) and has placed a strong emphasis on academics. Soon a group of teachers will be offering an after-school tutoring program for the ELOP students. Thank you Ms. Solorio--we APPRECIATE YOU!!!
HUMBERTO CAMACHO (Expanded Learning Site Administrator, Park Hill Elementary) Mr. Camacho was super supportive in keeping the library open for me as the Book Fair delivery showed up just as my shift was ending by stating, "We'll get it done Ms. Kelly, you go ahead and go. We work together here."

Positive Attendance - Teacher Showcase
Ms. Walker - De Anza Elementary
Ms. Walker inspires others by promoting positive attendance by sending daily perfect attendance pictures of her students to show how awesome it is to be in school! Her class also had six consecutive days of perfect attendance.
Coach Kooyman - NMMS
Coach K has gone above and beyond to promote Positive attendance to her students and comes to me with any concerns with student's attendance. Last school year, Coach K's Advisory class won our Advisory Challenge the most times and we can see that they are on their way to do the same this year!
Mr. Kyle Lohman - SJLA
Mr. Lohman has started the 24/25 with the right foot! His Lion Time class has had multiple 100% attendance days for Lion time period. Cadets and Mr. Lohman have demonstrated leadership and a POSITIVE attendance example for all Lions.
Did you know that San Jacinto Unified has a District Attendance Committee? This committee brings together various departments to ensure students are supported and attending school regularly. The team meets monthly to review data, plan initiatives, and highlight what schools are doing to promote attendance. They also recognize teachers with exceptional ADA (Average Daily Attendance) and brainstorm creative strategies to create a positive school environment for all students.
The team challenges all departments to contribute to improving attendance. Recently, the committee has expanded the attendance challenge to independent schools, created banners and pennants for schools, and launched the HomeConnect Outreach TEAM to assist families struggling with student attendance.
