The Weekly Roar

Updated Mask Policy
I want to thank you all for your commitment to create a safe environment for ALL of our students to learn in-person by sending your children with masks on each day. It has not been easy, but we appreciate every parent and child's efforts in keeping their masks on. We did this to keep one another safe. When I reflect on our journey, I'm filled with pride. Just Friday, we gave out hundreds of PAWS tickets to students wearing their masks. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
As the LA County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) guidelines change, the district is sharing updates with us at the school site around the use of masks, weekly testing, and vaccination, and when and if the COVID-19 metrics were to allow for such adjustments to take place.
We would like to share with you the recent changes to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) guidelines regarding masks in TK-12 settings; and based on these new guidelines how the CCUSD mask protocols are being adjusted.
Effective Tuesday, February 22, 2022:
Outdoors: Masks will be optional for all CCUSD staff and students outdoors on school property.
Indoors: Masks (KF94/N95) are still required for all CCUSD staff and students indoors on school property.
Parents and caregivers may communicate outdoor mask-wearing expectations with their children. La Ballona, however, will not be requiring mask-wearing when students are outdoors. If you want your child to continue wearing their mask, please TALK to your children about this personal responsibility. Please do not rely on the teachers and supervisors to oversee this.
All volunteers on campus will be continued to be required to show proof of Covid vaccination status as well as wear a K95/KF94 mask while indoors.
It has been a long journey for us in doing all we can to support and protect our students and staff, and we are hopeful that we are approaching some relief from this pandemic. CCUSD appreciates your help and will continue to monitor LACDPH guidance to make appropriate adjustments as needed.
Stay PAWSitive!

Birthday Policy
CLASS PARTIES/BIRTHDAYS The CCUSD Wellness Policy mandates that classroom celebrations that involve food during the school day must be limited to no more than one party per class per month. It is against Board Policy, PB 5030(a), to provide foods, such as pizza or sweets i.e. cupcakes, for an entire classroom at any time prior to the end of the last lunch period. Also, foods containing trans-fats cannot be offered or served to students during classroom celebrations . In order to prevent health risks to students from potential allergic reactions (to peanuts, wheat or soy) as well as safety and sanitation issues please comply with the above stated CCUSD Board Policies. Prior to bringing treats to the classroom, you must obtain permission from the classroom teacher. Foods such as fresh fruit or vegetables, popcorn (no caramel corn – it is considered candy), baked chips or 100% fruit juice such as Capri Sun are recommended. It is very important that we demonstrate our compliance with these standards for wholesome nutrition and wellness. Thank you for your cooperation. Birthday parties take away from crucial instructional time so a better suggestion is to purchase and donate a book to the La Ballona Library in commemoration of the child’s birthday. Balloons or flowers for individual students' birthdays are not appropriate or permitted at school.

Our trusty afternoon 'Cone Crew' have 2 shifts in the afternoon that need to be filled permanently (it's only 40 minutes, once a week).....Wednesday from 1:25-2:05pm and Friday from 2:55pm-3:35pm needs 1-2 new people to help out on a weekly basis. Our current crew can't fill these positions and we need your help please?
Our "Online Auction fundraiser Team" needs new help - easy as just writing some emails and requesting donations!
Looking for a flexible way to help La Ballona? Join our online Auction Team! We need volunteers for a variety of jobs—from those who prefer to just send emails, to people who like to talk to local business owners and ask for donations. We meet via Zoom once a month (even when there’s not a pandemic) and our meetings are after our kids are in bed. Working on the auction is an incredibly satisfying way to bring in the money that funds all the wonderful PTA programming! Plus, we are a fun and welcoming group—a terrific way to make friends with La Ballona parents. Please contact anyone on the Auction Team to learn more. Send any one of us a PM (Michele, Laura, Lisa, Felicity, Patricia, Silvia or Christine) or send a direct email to Michele Cerra Lachoff at michelej75@gmail.com
