Important Crossing Guard Change
The crossing guard stationed at the front of F.E. Bellows is being moved from the crosswalk on Carroll Avenue directly in front of the FEB entrance to the crosswalk at the intersection of Carroll Avenue and Route 1/Boston Post Rd. The hours of coverage will remain the same and new pedestrian crossing signs will be posted at the FEB crosswalk on Carroll Ave. The change will take place beginning on Tuesday, October 15th. Drivers are reminded that pedestrians have the right of way in all crosswalks and at intersections with marked or unmarked crosswalks as per New York State law.
Drill Safety
NYS has enacted a new law that requires schools to give communities warning about when SAFETY DRILLS will be happening. This is being done in an effort to mitigate potential anxiety for learners, parents and caregivers. Though schools may not release the exact time of the drill, they can give a window of time for the drill.
- Type of Drill: Gas Leak
- Time Frame: Week of October 15th.
- Please click here for more information regarding our emergency procedures.
Around the School
- Electing our Future: New Student Senate representatives were elected last week. Their first event will be a student run Volleyball Tournament in November! Stay tuned for details. See pics of Senators here.
- Digital Citizen Week: Students will be exploring ways to be a responsible Digital Citizen in English classes this week. Grades 9-11 will explore AI and "plagiarism," and seniors will look at AI generated college essays.
- ENL Parent Orientation Night: The ENL Department will host an Orientation Night for parents on Thursday, October 17th in the Library Community Room from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. This meeting is for ENL MS/HS parents who could not attend last month's meeting about Title I. It offers an excellent opportunity to learn more about how our school supports children as they learn English and grow academically.
Strategic Plan Focus
#Panthers are Problem Solvers: Statistics students in Ms. Fanelli's class explored probability using M&M's to represent categorical and quantitative data; students developed frequency tables, relative frequency tables, dot plots, and pie charts to display their results. See pics here.
#Inspiration: Students in Ms. Campana's craft classes were inspired by the famous pumpkin sculptures of Yayoi Kusama as they created Paper Mache' Pumpkins. See pics here.
#QFT in Action: Ms. Sokolofsky's geometry class uses the QFT process as an introduction to the Transformations Unit. Students asked questions about a geometry-themed comic, the notation used and rules they observed. See pics here.
#Scene of the Crime: Ms. Hoeler's forensics classes ventured outdoors to conduct a systematic search for evidence, applying techniques similar to those used in real investigations. They measured and recorded the locations of their findings, ultimately creating a map of the evidence. See pics here.
#Synapses: Ms. Carpiniello's AP Psychology used pipe cleaners to create neurons that then became part of a synaptic chain. See pics here.
#School Connections: The Varsity Cheer squad helps students at FE Bellows and Daniel Warren learn the cheers during homecoming week. See video here.
#Getting the Job Done: Ms. Feinman's theater tech students work together to ready the stage for The Great Gatsby. See pic here.
