A message from the principal
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
We are looking forward to a great start to our school year and welcoming back all of our Whirlwinds!
Please mark down Thursday, September 12 on your calendars. We have our annual Welcome Back Night for all families. From 5:00-7:00, you will be able to come out back and get food (free with the meal ticket when you sign in), receive resources from our grade level tables out back, have fun on the playground, talk with staff, dance to the DJ music, buy an ice cream treat and celebrate the kick-off to our school year with our community. It is always a fun event and we can't wait to see everyone. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to find a spot on the grass to enjoy the evening.
We look forward to a great first week of the 2024-2025 school year,
Chris Forrest, Principal
Wilson Elementary
Important messages from Wilson
STUDENT MORNING DROP OFF REMINDERS
We are working hard to keep our morning drop off line moving quickly and safely for all families and students. If you drop your student off in the morning, please review the reminders below:
- Do not park in the drop off line, this line is for drop and go only.
All adults must remain in the car during drop off. If you would like a longer goodbye with your child, please feel free to park in the lot or at Sunny Acres and walk them over to the door.
Make sure that your child exits your car on the side closest to the building/sidewalk.
At 9:10, students who eat breakfast are allowed into the cafeteria to eat. Other students will wait for the 9:20 bell behind their grade level cone.
Follow directions of staff directing traffic for everyone's safety.
STUDENT AFTERNOON PICK UP REMINDERS
Parents and guardians, for the safety of our students and patrols, please review our dismissal map below. PLEASE NOTE - there is NO parking on Sunny Lane. To pick up students, please drive through the parent pick up line (option #1) or park at Sunny Acres and walk to pick up your student (option #2). Parent pick up students will remain by door #2 until picked up by a parent/guardian. Thank you for keeping our students safe!
Cellphone policy
There are no cellphones or smart watches allowed at Wilson during the school day (9:10-4:00).
We understand that some families may want their student to have a cellphone or smart watch for before or after school. These devices are a distraction to student learning. If a student has a cellphone or smart watch, they will be required to turn it in to the main office for safekeeping during the school day. They will be able to pick it up at the end of the day.
Attendance information
Student absences can be reported via the Web (you will need to know your parent account information) or via the ParentVUE Mobile App. Follow these instructions to report an absence.
You will still be able to contact the attendance line at 763-506-4706 to report an absence 24/7.
If your student will be late or absent, you must enter attendance online or by calling in order to have your students' absence counted as excused.
Each day that your student will be late or absent, you must enter attendance online or call the attendance line in order to have your students' absence counted as excused. Please DO NOT email your child's teacher with attendance information.
Important school information
Prepare for the upcoming school year, complete back to school verification now. It’s important that families also login to complete back to school forms online before the first day of school. (Also known as “Back to school verification.”) This step ensures that our school has access to emergency contact information for the safety of each student, and allows you to access important class schedules and teacher assignments, attendance, school handbooks, progress reports and grades in the coming weeks.
Also, all Anoka-Hennepin families are encouraged to apply for the educational benefits program for the 2024-25 school year. A new application must be submitted each school year.
Breakfast and lunch are at no cost to families this year, however, the cost of a la carte items, such as milk, or extra meal items will not be covered. Students will need to have funds in their meal accounts to purchase any additional food items.
If you need help finding your login/password, call 763-506-HELP for assistance.

Parenting education and family resources
Anoka-Hennepin offers parenting classes and resources. Supporting Wilson as our Parent Educator is Nichol Michels. Additional information and resources can be found on our district web page.
This month's Parent Press highlights the importance of parents and teachers working together to help students do their best. When parents enforce behavior expectations, keep routines consistent, and offer plenty of learning chances, kids do better both in school and at home. Being involved and building strong connections between home and school really helps students succeed.
