Family Literacy Day - Celebrating 25 Years!!
Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Since 1999, thousands of schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups have taken part in the initiative. Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
Family Literacy Day 2024 Theme: Let’s have a family party! Celebrate 25 years of Family Literacy Day and learning together as a family by having a party!
Make food, sing songs, and play games. The possibilities for learning are endless – and it’s fun when you do it together.
Happy Literacy Day & have a great week!

Parents have you completed the Division Survey yet??
Division Assurance Survey - Please give your feedback!
Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools values your opinion. As part of our Assurance process, please share your perspective through our Division Assurance Survey at the link or QR code below. This survey will inform planning and decisions at the school and divisional levels for the 2024/2025 school year.
Surveys are completely anonymous.
Families with children at more than one GSACRD school are asked to complete a survey for each site.
The survey will remain open to Friday, February 2, 2024.
If you have a child in grade 4 - 9, you may receive a similar survey from Alberta Education later. If so, we would encourage you to complete both surveys.
We thank you in advance for sharing your feedback; your time is appreciated.
Inuit Learning
The Titans had an amazing opportunity this week to immerse themselves in the rich culture of the Inuit people! They explored the Inuktitut language, saw replica tools and furs, artwork and heard stories. There is nothing like making learning alive as they discovered how the Inuit people thrive in one of the world’s most challenging environments; the Arctic.
Overwhelmed by BIG Goals?
The onset of a New Year traditionally represents a fresh start, presenting us with opportunities to leave our old habits behind and create new ones. Is your child preparing to accomplish some big New Year's resolutions this year? These goals look like:
Making the sports team
Getting better grades
Keeping their room clean
Learning to cook
Getting down to the details of their goals can be overwhelming and even daunting. So what can we do to help?
We can play a part in guiding our children to approach their goals in more manageable ways instead of trying to tackle and perfect them all at once. Reducing the pressure to make straight A’s right way or be the captain of every sports team, will allow for children to adapt to their goals at their own pace, ensuring they remain optimistic and driven.
Check out this week’s resources from Big Life Journal that can help your child keep their goals organized and easily attainable!

Communication about Ash Wednesday/Valentines Party
During Lent, we are invited, as Catholics, to step outside of our day-to-day routines and into a formal time of personal preparation for Easter. The Church calls us to a sort of spiritual “spring cleaning”; to participate in practices that help us turn back to God.
During Lent, we are encouraged to prepare our hearts by increasing our intentionality and practice of 3 disciplines: prayer, fasting and almsgiving (being servants to others).
The Church teaches that Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, in particular, are universal days of fasting and abstinence from meat.
This is a unique year on Ash Wednesday on February 14. Our school will be honoring Ash Wednesday observances on the 14th and have made plans for Valentine’s Day activities in advance of this day to take place on February 13th. Classroom teachers will follow up about any specfic classroom events for that day.
