Family Math Night Out!
We are excited to invite you and your family to join us for a special event at OMS - Family Math Night! This event will take place on May 9th from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.
Family Math Night promises to be an evening filled with fun, games, and learning opportunities for the whole family. It's a chance for parents, guardians, and children to come together and enjoy various math-related activities in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Students must be accompanied by an adult for the entire event.
Here are some highlights of what you can expect:
Engaging math games and activities suitable for all ages
Opportunities to work together as a family to solve problems and puzzles
Whether you're a math enthusiast or just looking for a fun family outing, there will be something for everyone at Family Math Night. Plus, it's a great way to reinforce the importance of math in everyday life and show your children that learning can be enjoyable.
We hope to see you there and look forward to sharing this special evening with you and your family. Please mark your calendars for May 9th and plan to join us for what promises to be a memorable event.

Classroom Spotlight: Ms. Rigas' French 1B Classes
French 1B students participated in "Manie Musicale" during the month of March through Friday, April 12th. "Manie Musicale" is a National Competition and we run our own OMS version of the competition. Students listened to 16 different songs from artists from all over the French-Speaking world and voted for their favorite to move to the next round. The classes crowned an internal OMS champion, based on their votes and the OMS winning song was revealed on our Knightly News morning announcements. The OMS winning song actually matched the winning songs from the national competition, "Akwaba" by Par Magic System. Students were very excited about it!
Ms. Rigas shared, "During the first round, before we listened to the song and watched each music video, we read biographical information about each artist/group in French. Students kept a log in French for each pair of songs matched up against each other with information about the names of each artist/group, each song title, the countries of origin of each artist/group, and with two interesting facts about each artist/group. When it was time to vote for the favorite to move on to the next round, students had to write in their logs a review of their favorite song, explaining in French why they voted for that particular song. Students had to use studied vocabulary and discuss the lyrics, the rhythm, the music video, the artist, etc. in their writing. Then in groups of 3-4 they shared these reviews with their group. It is amazing to see how invested students were with the songs they liked in "Manie Musicale 2024" to the point that some added those songs to their spotify or apple music playlists. Some even have their favorites still saved and still listen to from last year's "Manie Musicale 2023" playlist."
