Safety
Red Ribbon Week
BES will be participating in Red Ribbon Week October 28-31. This annual event focuses on drug use prevention and bullying awareness. The dress up days help remind the students of the dangers of drugs. Anti-bullying messages are also incorporated into Red Ribbon Week. Please encourage your child to participate and spread positivity.
Halloween Safety with Officer Magers
Halloween is coming! Therefore, School Resource Officer, Paul Magers, will be sharing important safety information with our students in October. His required topics are Fentanyl awareness, "stranger danger" and the importance of trick-or-treat safety. Officer Magers will be teaming up with Mrs. Cage during the grade level PE times to address these important issues. These lessons will coincide with Red Ribbon Week.
Performance
Parent Conferences
The state of Texas requires that public schools offer at least one opportunity for parents and teachers to meet throughout the year. BES will be hosting parent conferences on October 11th. The classroom teachers will contact parents to schedule a time. October 11th would be preferred if possible but can be adjusted if there are any scheduling conflicts. Teachers will have some important things to share with you. They will review your child's progress during the first nine weeks of school. It is also important for you to share information about your child with the teacher. Here are some examples of things you might want to discuss with your child's teacher during the conference.
- Your child's likes/dislikes- favorite foods, tv shows, activities etc.
- Any changes at home that might cause stress for your child. If we know, we can help them cope.
- Any health concerns your child my have such as allergies, sleep patterns, or chronic issues that may affect learning at school.
- Any concerns or issues you have with your child's homework, classwork, behavior, etc.
- Ask if there are any ways that you can assist and get involved in your child's learning at school.
- Ask if there are activities you can do at home to enhance your child's learning.
- Take the opportunity to praise your child and teacher for their hard work!
Parent Portal
- Bowie ISD uses a web based program called Ascender to allow parents/guardians to stay informed about their student(s). This is the same program used to register your child for school. Ascender gives access to important information such as attendance alerts, grades reports, behavior alerts and access to STAAR test results. Please take a few minutes and explore the data because it will prove to be very help! Visit www.Bowieisd.net and click the Families tab to access the parent portal link and many other helpful resources.
Engagement
Curriculum Carnival
It's that time of year again!!! We are so excited to host the sixth annual Curriculum Carnival. This event is our largest parental involvement event of the year. This year we are incorporating more games and activities than ever before. You will find reading and math activities all over our campus. There will be fun ways to interact with your child and spend some safe Halloween time with your family. Bring the whole family and dress up for some fun.
We ask that the costumes not be scary or violent. We have very young students here and we want everyone to enjoy the evening so leave the weapons and chainsaws at home. Please pick costumes that are little kid friendly.
The campus will have activities for families to enjoy together so come early so you have time to do everything. Bring a sack or candy bucket to collect candy and prizes. Please bring your patience too! There will be a lot of people and it gets pretty crowded in the halls.
WE NEED CANDY!!! Please send a large bag of individually wrapped candy for the booths. We want to fill those buckets as the kids travel around the building. You can send it with your student or drop it off in the office anytime before the 29th of October.

Field trip tips

ASK questions if you do not understand the instructions or if you have an issue or concern. We are here help!
PREPARE your student's things ahead of time. Be on time, the bus will not wait for your student if you are late to school.
