Thursday, Jan 9, 2025, 07:00 PM
Contra Costa Water District 1331 Concord Ave, Concord, California, USA
This month our speaker is Diane Bond
This month's speaker will be our own Diane Bond. Diane's talk is titled "What my computer can teach me about my orchids". She will take us on a walk through various websites and computer programs that we can use to learn about our orchids.
Diane has been growing orchids for....let's say a long time. She became much more serious in 2014 when she had more free time. Currently she is a board member of DVOS, an associate judge in the California Sierra Nevada judging center of the American Orchid Society and avid collector of... well it would be easier to say what she doesn't grow. She doesn't have a single Sarcochilus. She grows in the mild climate of Oakland with a moderately sized, heated and cooled, hobby greenhouse, as well as plenty of protected outdoor space for Cymbidiums.
We will not be having dinner with the speaker prior to the meeting this month.
President's Letter
Greetings Orchid Friends,
Thank you all for joining us at our Annual Holiday Party! It was a wonderful celebration filled with delicious food, great company, and generous gifts.
As we step into the New Year 2025, we are excited to collaborate on our upcoming Orchid Show and Sale at the California State East Bay - Concord campus. Your participation is vital as we are an entirely volunteer-driven orchid society. We encourage you to bring blooming plants to showcase at the event, as your orchid could potentially win an award! Additionally, we are looking for more volunteers to assist with various roles on that day, including the Plant Hotel, Admission, Member Plant Sales, Judging, and more.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has already paid their DVOS Membership dues; your support is crucial in sustaining our organization and enabling us to bring you valuable orchid speakers each month. If you haven’t submitted your dues yet, please do so at your earliest convenience. We now offer electronic payment options, but if you prefer to send a check, please make sure it is sent in soon. Details for renewing your membership dues are provided below. And remember, as a 501(c)(3) organization, your dues are tax-deductible!
Additionally, I encourage you to share our mission with your friends, family, and neighbors who have an interest in orchids. This is an excellent opportunity to invite new members to join us. It’s essential for our society to grow by bringing in fresh perspectives and enthusiasm. We also need volunteers willing to step into leadership roles, such as becoming board members or officers. New members can play a crucial role in ensuring the future growth and sustainability of our society for generations to come.
Best regards,
George Su
