Chester Ronning School
April 2025

Principal's Message
Hello again, Chester Ronning School Community,
April is kind of the unofficial start of the last phase of the school year and what an exciting time it is! By this point, the progress that students have made in their current grade is becoming clearer and their readiness to advance and take on more challenging outcomes and increased responsibility is becoming more consistent. The combination of student readiness, course completion and improving weather makes off-campus and outdoor learning experiences more accessible and events like track and field days, nature walks and field trips are a welcome change of pace after a long winter! Please watch for School Messenger texts, communications from your child's teacher(s) and keep an eye on the school calendar for information about upcoming events, activities and field trips.
On that note, it is a tradition at Chester Ronning School for Grade 5 students to go on an exciting final field trip to Birch Bay Ranch. Students grow up at CRS seeing our senior cohort head off on this trip each year and then hearing about their escapades and they often end up looking forward to this trip for years as they progress toward Grade 5 themselves. This is an expensive experience, however, and we work very hard to make it as affordable as possible through fundraising events. This year, our Grade 5 team has arranged several fundraisers in support of the Birch Bay trip. If you are able to support any of these events, it will be greatly appreciated:
- Bottle Collection (ongoing) - Our Grade 5 students have resumed collecting empty drink containers from classrooms each week. There is also an account set up at the Camrose Universal Bottle Depot so, if you are able to donate some bottles, just tell the Bottle Depot staff that your donation is for Chester Ronning School.
- Minecraft Movie Night (April 28 @ 5:30 pm) - Anyone who wants to see the Minecraft movie for their first, second or third time can do so while also supporting the Gr. 5 trip. All-age tickets are $10 and Chester Ronning School families can purchase them through PowerSchool, similarly to how the chocolate almond fundraiser goes in the fall.
- Bake Sale (May 8) - All CRS students will be able to buy reasonably-priced homemade baking made by Gr. 5 families. If possible, send a few dollars to school with your child so they can shop for a special treat!
And, finally, April 28-May 2 is National Volunteer Week and I wanted to take the opportunity to thank our many volunteers who make field trips and other activities possible. We are currently fortunate to have 31 parents, guardians and family members who have been approved by the school division to volunteer in the school and during off-campus excursions. That's a tremendous number and we are so grateful that members of our school community offer such generosity with their time to help provide different learning experiences for our students. Additionally, I also need to thank our school council members and the parents who volunteer time and energy to fundraise, provide hot-lunch opportunities and other extras that improve our school.
As the school year races toward summer and more field trips and different events take place, please keep in mind the many people who make themselves available so that our students can enjoy these different experiences. And for those of you who offer volunteerism in the larger community, from athletics coaches and managers to program leaders, etc. - thank you for the many ways that you provide opportunities and added value to students' lives outside of school!
Yours in Education, As Always,
Reid Lansing,
CRS Principal

Movie Fundraiser
Family Movie Fundraiser Night!
Chester Ronning School is excited to host a Movie Fundraiser Night on Monday, April 28th at 5:30 PM at our local movie theatre! We’ll be showing the newly released Minecraft Movie (Rated PG) — a perfect family-friendly film for all ages!
Tickets are $10 each (same price for adults and children), with all ticket sales managed exclusively through students' online PowerSchool accounts, similar to the way you purchased chocolates in the fall. Food and drinks will be available for purchase separately at the theatre. All purchases are non-refundable.
We are aiming to sell 150 tickets and raise $1000 to support our Grade 5 year-end activities. After theatre costs are covered, the remaining funds will go directly to this cause. There is no limit on how many tickets one family can purchase (5 per form but no maximum on forms), but once we hit 150, ticket sales will close — so don’t wait! There is no need to print anything after your purchase. Please arrive at the theatre on the evening of April 28th and you will be checked in from there.
Ticket sales are only available online and are non-refundable. Please arrive early to get your seat and snacks.
We encourage families to come together, invite friends, and enjoy a fun-filled evening out. Children must attend with a parent or guardian. Let’s make this a night to remember while supporting a great cause!
Grade 5 Bottle Donation
We are actively fundraising for our Grade 5 farewell activities. The Camrose Bottle Depot now has a "Chester Ronning" account set up. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone who wishes to donate their bottles to this account to help towards our fundraising efforts! 100% of these funds will go towards the year-end Grade 5 celebrations.
Thank you for your continued support!
Grade 5 Bake Sale
Mark your calendars! May 8th delicious home baked goodies will be available to purchase for our Grade 5 bake sale. If possible, please send a few dollars to school with your child so they can shop for a special treat!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to the students who performed in the Camrose Music Festival this year. April 7th we took a large group of singers from Grades 2, 4, and 5, and April 8th we had many Grade 4 and 5 students performing on the recorders. Students from Chester Ronning were complemented both days on being well prepared, behaving positively and demonstrating spirit along with their musical skills.
Students, you represented our school so well and everyone is proud of the hard work you put into this accomplishment!

Real Time Reporting
Please take a few minutes to log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal to view your child’s most up-to-date grades and comments. Our Real-Time Reporting system allows you to stay connected to your child’s learning progress throughout the year, providing insights into their achievements and areas for growth. By regularly checking PowerSchool, you can support your child’s learning journey and celebrate their progress together. Thank you for partnering with us to foster a positive and collaborative learning experience.
Breakfast Club
We are currently offering a nutritious quick grab and go breakfast snack in the front foyer at 8:00am - 8:10am. Students will continue to the playground or boot room until the call in bell rings. There will be no early entry to the school.
Classroom Treats
We love that you want to celebrate with your child on special occasions and are appreciative of your generosity, but we ask that no class treats be brought to school. Due to food allergies that may be present in your child's classroom we are unable to hand these treats out. If you would like to pack something special for your child on special occasions, we encourage you to add it to their lunch boxes.

Kindergarten Eye See…Eye Learn™ Program and Parent Brochure
As 80% of children’s learning is visual, it is essential to emphasize the importance of scheduling an eye examination for all school aged children, and especially for kindergarten students as they begin their in-school learning years.
Early detection and intervention can significantly impact a child's educational journey. Alberta Health coverage is available for child’s eye exams up to age 19.
City of Camrose Transportation
The City of Camrose would like to provide an update on a couple upcoming changes to the Community Bus. Starting Tuesday, July 2nd the City will be launching a revised route AND will no longer be charging a fare.
