WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH THE SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
There are so many ways to help your child at home even if you are not fluent in the target language they are learning. Here are some tips for doing so:
- ask what they learned in class
- review their vocabulary or class notes with them for 5-10 minutes daily.
- listen to music in the target language.
- watch Television or movies in the target language.
- speak the target language if possible at home.
- flashcards with vocabulary
- label items in the house in the target language.
- use free digital platforms like Duolingo for 5 minutes a day.

WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS MONTH?
SPANISH ACADEMY
Spanish 1
Students in Spanish 1:We are working in Lesson 3 “La familia”. The students created their Family tree and will present it in class. Also, we will be working with “Descriptive Adjectives”, and soon we will start with the er-ir, present tense of tener, and venir.
Spanish 2
(Miguez)Students will be introduced to the following:
- .Verbs that change meaning in the preterite tense
- .The uses of interrogative words and phrases.
- . Pronouns after prepositions.
- . Students will read about las Fiestas Patrias in Chile, el Día de los Reyes Magos, las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Project
Students will create a Venn diagram to compare two celebrations and discuss how these events are alike and how they are different, using some of the terms to signal similarities and differences.
(Morales)-We started working with Irregular Preterites from lesson 3 Las Fiestas. We review also all the vocabulary and grammar from lesson 1, and 2.
Spanish 3
Students will be introduced to the following:
- The Past Perfect.
- . The Present Perfect Subjunctive.
- . Students will listen for the gist and for cognates and answer questions about a radio program.
- . Students will watch a video about places to relax and ways to deal with stress in Madrid, Spain.
Project
Students will create a personal wellness exercise plan commercial.
FRENCH ACADEMY
French 1(6th)-currently offered online via OCVS/FLVS.

TWO-WAY DUAL LANGUAGE ACADEMY
español
sexto grado(6)- students are finishing the word classification unit. We will continue working on writing best practices and reading comprehension strategies.
séptimo grado(7)- Students continue working on the better understanding of correct orthography. This will allow them to improve their writing skills. We will be adding literature components.
octavo grado AP(8)-Students are working on the presentation speaking of the AP framework. They are working on Cultural comparison and how to focus on the practices,perspectives and products of each community in comparison of their own. They then learn how to create a 2 min oral presentation.
ciencias/Science
Ciencias Biológicas (6to)-CRM 2.3 Genetics and test will be on January 28th
Ciencias terrestres (7mo)-Will be working with
- Darwin, Wallace, and Gould Gallery Walk Project (01/17)
- This assignment is a mini-project where students will work in groups to make a product about either Darwin, Wallace, or Gould. Students should have 2 days to work on their product and one day for the gallery walk and processing activities. If the student is part of my 5th period class, their work and presentation has to be in Spanish.

ASL
Level 1
- We are currently working on a mini New Year project, the students will create a presentation on Canva and they will choose one word that will represent their year of 2025. We are also starting Unit 2 this week, Unit 2 will focus on how to exchange their personal information. They will learn what to expect when meeting with a Deaf person, what hand to use when signing, learning all about Gallaudet University (Mrs. Fig's alma mater), how to sign numbers #16-30, and their language backgrounds.
