Take our summer reading challenge and aim to read 4-6 books this summer. Not only will you be developing your vocabulary and writing fluency, you'll be building your empathy and social cognition. This summer reading newsletter will help you decide what books to read and where to get them.

What to Read: These Lists Showcase the Best of the Best

YALSA Teens Top Ten: Each year the Young Adult Library Service Organization publishes a list of the top ten books of the previous year. The books are nominated and voted upon by teens. Check out the list of 25 nominees for this year, or look at 2019's top ten.


YALSA Quick Picks: This is the Young Adult Library Service Organization's list of Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers. They are sure to be fast and engaging reads.


Alex Award Winners: The Alex Award is given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults


Morris Award Winner/Finalists: The William C. Morris YA Debut Award honors a book published by a first-time author writing for teens.


Printz Award Winner/Honor Books: The Michael L. Printz Award is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature


The National Book Award Winner/Finalists: The National Book Awards celebrate the best literature in American in in multiple categories, including the National Book Award for Young People's Literature.

Sora by Overdrive

Students can download the Sora app or access it from the Sora website. Select Monroe #1 BOCES, then Webster Central Schools. Use your Chromebook login. There is also a desktop version of Overdrive.

Public library patrons can download the Libby app by Overdrive. Sign in using your public library card credentials. There is also a desktop version of Overdrive.

An Update on Webster Public Library

The Webster Public Library's website includes details on their stages of reopening. Check back frequently for updates on their hours and services.


If you do not have a public library card you can get an ecard here. This will get you access to ebooks and audiobooks from the public library.
