This Week at MHS
October 28 - November 1
The Band Wins Again!
The Red Rebel Marching Band completed its 2024 marching season at the 49th Annual Alcoa Marching Competition on Saturday. The Band received a Superior rating, which completed our sweep of having the highest possible rating at all competitions this year. The Band placed second in its class, which was the largest class it had competed in all year. Our drum majors placed first in the class and had the highest overall drum major score of the competition! Our seniors were proud to be on the field to accept the awards!
The Band has had an incredible competition season this year! The Band has earned multiple first place awards and continual Superior ratings. Our show, By the Light of the Moon, has been performed in front of thousands of people over the last three months. We're proud of the hard work and commitment our students have put toward this success. We also appreciate all the support our community has given the Band! The Band will now shift to concert season and prepare for our upcoming All-District Bands Holiday Concert, featuring the MHS, MJHS, CGIS, and MRIS Bands in December.
Dear MHS Parents and Students,
It was a tough loss Friday night, but we have so much to be thankful for! Our Volleyball team placed third in the State Tournament - the highest ranking in state history! Our Band has competed at the highest levels each time. The Fall Festival (going on right now) is a tremendous hit in our community and we could not have made it a reality without all your help. We live in the best community!
Students in grades 9-12 are provided the opportunity to test out of certain graduation requirements by earning a passing score on a comprehensive credit exam prior to enrolling in the class. Testing out is an opportunity for students to earn credits for material they may already have a strong foundation in, without having to take the actual course for a semester or school year. To understand more about the courses for this opportunity, the score required, and the testing dates, please go to this link: https://mhs.maryville-schools.org/academics/state-test-out. The first testing date for this school year will be Saturday, December 7th. If you need more information, please see your school counselor.
Parents of seniors: Erika Adams, our TSAC specialist and financial aid expert, will be at MHS on Monday, November 4. She will present financial aid information in Senior Transition classes all day and then that evening, she will make a parent presentation in the auditorium at 5:30 pm. Presentation content will include FAFSA completion details and TN state aid information. All senior parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Students interested in Cosmetology and Esthetics careers are eligible for a free field trip on November 8. This trip is available to the first 25 students who return a permission form to Guidance (see attached document in the Counselor's Corner).
The Blount County Campus of Pellissippi State is hosting an open house for students and families interested in learning more about dual enrollment opportunities on October 29th from 5-7pm. In addition to the programs listed on the flyer, students will also have an opportunity to learn about the future Aviation A&P program. This program is still in the final approval stages so PSTCC is not able to officially advertise just yet, but those who attend the Dual Enrollment Open House will be able to learn more about this exciting new program as well as many others offered at our Blount County Campus.
Applications for all 11 Tennessee Governor’s School programs opened on October 1, 2024, for the 2025 summer programs. The link to apply is located in the Counselor's Corner below.
BJ's will be opening soon in Maryville. For every membership purchased by a staff member, parent, or anyone with your school's code, BJ's will give OUR school $10! Please see the flyer below for more information.

STUDENT CHECK OUT PROCEDURES
Check-outs should be held to a minimum and are limited to the following:
Emergency - Decision to be made by the principal or assistant principals.
Prior arrangement - If a written request is received by officials in the student services office prior to the beginning of the school day, the student will be dismissed at the requested time. The checkout note must include the student’s full name, date, time of dismissal, phone number where parent/guardian can be reached for verification, and signature of the parent/guardian.
- The parent/guardian comes to the main entrance office to sign the student out.
Students who become sick during the school day must report to the assistant principal’s office/school nurse before they call home. The assistant principal’s office will assist the student and permit the student to call home. The student will remain in the assistant principal’s office or with the school nurse until he/she receives permission to go home or until he/she is picked up by a parent/guardian.
Students are allowed to check out during third block only for medical or legal purposes, and proper documentation must be provided. Students are not allowed to check out to retrieve items needed for school. Leaving school without permission will result in disciplinary action.
Students checking out of school on an altered schedule day will receive an unexcused absence unless the school is provided the appropriate legal or medical documentation.
