Hungate Echo
Autumn Term, Week 7
A word from Mr Broom
We enter the final week of the half term on Monday and it's a short week too, with Friday being an INSET day. School is closed to pupils and our staff will be visiting Tadcaster Grammar School for training. Before then, we've our Harvest Festival performance and a whole range of exciting activities to wrap up the half term.
If you enter school via the main entrance, you will have noticed that we've increased our leadership team presence at the gates to try and reduce the issues with drop off and collection. I'd like to thank all those parents/carers who have supported us in keeping our children safe at drop off and collection. The situation is definitely better with an increased consideration for pedestrians and other road users.
Have a super weekend.

Parking
We are again having to highlight the issue of parking outside the school entrance. Below are links to the rules surrounding parking outside a school as well as the highway code. Please do not park on the yellow zig zag lines outside the entrance or opposite these to ensure the safety of our children. North Yorkshire Police have been contacted again about the parking situation and safety of our children. We therefore ask parents to park their cars at either the co-op or Sherburn White Rose car park, where there are ample spaces.
Lost Property
Next Thursday (24th) we will be going through all lost property. Anything without a name or that does not have a school logo will go in the charity bag on Thursday. Anything with a school logo that is not collected will go into preloved. Anything named will be handed back to the child.
Family Consultations
Our first round of family consultations will take place in the week commencing 11th November. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing booking information with you. As normal, these are face-to-face meetings lasting 10 minutes, taking place from 1530-1800. The dates we have set aside are Monday 11th November and Wednesday 13th November. Please can you add these to your calendar and consider arranging work commitments in readiness for your family consultation?

Curriculum and Assessment Review
On Wednesday 25 September, the curriculum and assessment review, chaired by Professor Becky Francis CBE, launched a call for evidence, open for 8 weeks.
The review is seeking evidence from young people and parents, teachers and lecturers, leaders, experts and employers on how the curriculum and assessment system can ensure all young people are prepared for life and work, including:
an excellent foundation in core subjects of reading, writing and maths
a broader curriculum, so that young people do not miss out on subjects such as music, art, sport and drama, as well as vocational subjects
a curriculum that ensures children and young people leave compulsory education ready for life and ready for work – this includes embedding digital, oracy and life skills in the curriculum
a curriculum that reflects the issues and diversities of our society, ensuring all children and young people are represented
an assessment system that captures the strengths of every child and young person and the breadth of curriculum, with the right balance of assessment methods whilst maintaining the important role of examinations
You can read more about the national curriculum and why it is being reviewed and respond to the call for evidence by Friday 22 November.
The review panel is also hosting a series of regional roadshows.
You can contact the review at curriculum-assessment.review@education.gov.uk.
