Monday Memo
Cougars,
Today is the start of America's Safe Schools Week, National School Bus Safety Week, and Red Ribbon Week. Prioritizing students' health and safety is a year-round effort. However, dedicating a special week allows us to educate students with special lesson plans and fun activities.
To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, our campuses are having events and dress-up days that teach the dangers of doing drugs, vaping, or using other substances. Raising awareness for elementary students sets a foundation for them to make healthy, thoughtful choices. This week, our middle school is introducing "Safety First." It's an anti-drug lesson plan encouraging students to make healthy decisions through accurate information about the harmful effects of drugs. Check with your child's campus to see what activities are planned and what you can do at home to promote Red Ribbon Week. Also, keep your eyes open for a special message from our police K-9, Nosek.
National School Bus Safety Week addresses the importance of safe behavior when going to and from school. Riding the bus is a privilege, so it's important that students behave on the bus. Drivers need to focus on the road and watch for bicyclists and other vehicles. This week, our bus drivers will give out safety tips to students about walking to and from the bus stop, getting on and off the bus safely, and using caution around the bus, such as never walking behind it and always walking in front of the bus so the driver can see you.
America's Safe Schools Week promotes lessons about making positive choices. When students make good choices, they are empowered to grow academically and socially. This week, officers from the Jarrell ISD Police Department will support teachers with Red Ribbon activities, bus safety, and how one bad decision may impact their future.
At Jarrell ISD, we're united as one community. We all win when we teach our students why saying no to drugs and making good choices is important.
