PBIS & DOJO STORE WISH LIST
What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS). The goal of PBIS is to assist with the creation of a safe, positive learning environment for all scholars. Using PBIS strategies can improve social / emotional competence, and it can assist in improving academic performance while creating a school culture of positivity and respect.
PBIS works to teach and reinforce positive behaviors while also addressing those behaviors which are not conducive to learning. Using the PBIS system gives us the opportunity to cultivate relationships in our building, interact with one another in positive, affirming ways, and increase the windows for high level academic instruction.
In our school we use a variety of tools to put our PBIS plan into action. Some of the positive ways we work to impact students include: Student of the Month, Dojo store, recognition referrals, and end-of-quarter celebrations. Over the next few weeks we’ll look at each of these closer.
*Would you like to contribute to our Dojo Store? FOLLOW THIS LINK TO OUR WISH LIST. Thank you for all you do for our scholars!

FAMU Session Coming Soon
On November 21 from 5:30-7:30pm, the FCPS Family and Community Engagement Department will host Family University “Special Programs Parent Panels”. This event will be held at our Family Connection Center-North (1625 Russell Cave Road). This will be an opportunity for families across the district to come and hear from families who currently have students enrolled in our various district programs, and receive advice and guidance that will help them decide which schools to learn more about at Innovative Programs Showcase in the spring.
VOLUNTEERS
Fayette County Public Schools and GWC invites families to participate in our educational community! We need all kinds of volunteers to help make sure our scholars have an enriching experience in the classroom and beyond. For more information about volunteering in FCPS, please follow this link.

ATTENDANCE
It is important that your scholar is here daily. When scholars are absent they miss important academic content. Equally, tardies have a negative impact upon your scholar as well and cause a disruption to the learning environment when arriving late.
Did you know?
- A child who is 10 minutes late misses 32 hours a year of lost education.
- A child who misses 1 day a week loses 2 months a year of education.
- Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to 1 full year of lost education.
Please make every effort to have your scholar here and on time daily!
- If scholars are not in their classroom at 7:45 a.m., when the bell rings, we kindly ask that you check them in through the front office.
- If your scholar is absent, please make sure you send in an excuse and/or parent note, within three days, at which time the absence will be marked as excused.
- Keep in mind that you are allowed 10 parent notes per year.
