MAY 2024
THANK YOU
It has been an absolute honor to serve as your school principal for the school year 2023-2024 and I look forward to a wonderful 2024-2025 school year. This is one of my favorite pictures because it shows the innocence and kindness in every child that walks through our doors. We teach them, we love them, we guide them and we empower them to DREAM BIG, every single day. Thank you for choosing our school as your school of choice and I CANNOT WAIT to see them next school year!
Dear Red Hawk Parents,

👂Better Hearing and Speech Month
I love writing this monthly newsletter to share all the wonderful activities we have for our Red Hawks and families. Thank you for your trust and dedication to our school.
We are only a few weeks away from the End of the School Year and I am incredibly thankful for all your support and dedication to our school and community. There are 20 instructional days from now until the end of the school year. I also would like to take this time to thank our Red Hawks PTO Board. These wonderful ladies work so hard to make things possible for our kids. They volunteer their precious time to help our school and community. I am forever grateful. Thank you to all of you who donated an hour, two or many hours to support our school. Every one is welcomed and we appreciate any time you can come and help. Parents are always welcomed!
A reminder that the last day of school for students is Wednesday May 29th.
Thank you to all of you who have completed the 2024-2025 registration process. We are so excited to see many of our families back next school year. We will continue to excel and create amazing instructional days for our students. If you registered and uploaded all your documents, your child will receive a free dress bracelet on Friday May 3rd. They will wear the bracelet every day next week. Thank you for your support in ensuring we have our classes set for next school year. We are also very excited to see students return to Reyes ES from our neighboring district as their dual language program systems and processes have changed. Canutillo ISD remains committed to a true dual language program based on research and practice. It will be such an exciting school year! As you may remember, the United States Department of Education visited our campus last school year due to our exemplar model and the systems we have in place.

Student Council: Clothing and Shoe bin
The purpose of the blue bin in the front of the school is to work with the community in a clothing and shoe donation program. These collections serve many purposes; we serve those who come from the Opportunity Center, Rescue Mission, the homeless families at schools, and low-income families. They also give a 10 cent per pound donation of clothing collected to the school. They have been a partner in education with the school districts and work with the needs of each individual schools. The main source of the clothes donated come from the surrounding community. Additionally, they will donate the uniforms back to our school.
TELECOMMUNICATION DEVICES (CELL PHONE, APPLE WATCHES, ETC)
Students must keep their cell phones, Apple Watches and any other phone watch turned off and in their backpacks from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm. In case of an emergency, students will be allowed to make phone calls from the office. Please read district policy below which can be found in the Student Handbook pg. 54.

During open house, the teacher will notify you of the specific dismissal pick-up locations but dismissal for everyone is in the upper level (in front of the school).
SAFETY
Safety will continue to be our top priority. We work very closely with the Canutillo ISD Police under guidance from TEA and local authorities to ensure we continue to train all stakeholders and following safety protocols.
- Please ensure you are part of the official call out system and Parent Portal for the campus/district. All parents are responsible for signing up for it. Please see our campus receptionist to do so.
- All visitors MUST have their ID to show at the door prior to entry into the building.
- If you need to come to the office, please bring your ID and use the Ring door bell and we will ask you to show us your ID at that time before we let you in. If you need to speak to Administration and/or teachers, please call to set up an appointment.
- Monthly emergency drills will be conducted and will be listed in the monthly calendar.
- All campus employees will be trained on our safety protocols prior to the first day of school.
- All campus doors are locked and access to building with staff badge only. All substitutes, parents and other district employees will enter through the front office.
- All volunteers and PTO must check in the front office, bring their ID and sign-in using the volunteer binder. All volunteers must have a task for the day and not interrupt classroom instruction. Volunteer badge may be revoked at any time by the campus administration if protocols are not followed.
- Police officer on duty at our school but also supports other schools during the day - Officer Adrian Salcido.
- Below are our Drill Handouts for Parents. Speaking to your child before the school year starts regarding the drills we have in school is beneficial. Safety begins with all of us.
23-24 STUDENTS COVID 19, FLU AND RSV PROTOCOLS
Canutillo ISD has adopted the CDC’s Respiratory Virus Guidance to address attendance
students that become infected with COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses, including flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The student should stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have respiratory virus symptoms that aren't better explained by another cause. These symptoms may include but are not limited to chest discomfort, chills, cough, diarrhea, fatigue (tiredness), fever or feeling feverish, headache, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste or smell, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, vomiting, and wheezing.
When can a person return back to school?
You can go back to your normal activities when both are true for at least 24 hours:
o Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
o You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
When you go back to your normal activities, take added precautions over the next 5 days:
o Hand hygiene – wash or sanitize your hands often
o Cover your cough or sneeze
o Wear a mask
o Keep your physical distance from others
o Test for respiratory viruses (COVID-19, RSV, or the flu) in order to provide useful information to help you make prevention or treatment choices
Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you
are feeling better. You are likely to be less contagious at this time, depending on factors like how
long you were sick or how sick you were. If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until both are true for at least 24 hours:
Your symptoms are improving overall, and
You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precautions for the next 5 days.
If you never had symptoms but tested positive for COVID-19, you may be contagious. For the next 5 days, take added precautions. Please note:
For absences lasting more than 3 days, a doctor’s note is required before returning to work.
It is the responsibility of the employee to enter their own illness related absences into
TEAMS as (sick leave self).
As a reminder there is no work from home at any time during an employee illness.
