Campus Announcements
Dear Families:
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which will take place from:
*April 4 to April 11, 2024 in our Arbor Creek Library. The fair is open every morning before school from 8:10 am until 4:10 pm daily.
*The book fair will also be open from 5:30-6:30 pm the evening of the COLOR RUN on Thursday, April 11, 2024. We will close the book fair prompty at 6:30 as soon as the first color races begin, so be sure to come and shop early before the Color Run!
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
Please note this school year we are not accepting checks as payment at the book fair. Our registers will accept: cash, scholastic e-wallets, and credit cards, including apple pay and tap to pay cards. Questions about the book fair can be sent to our librarian, Mrs. Wilson, at wilsonj@lisd.net
You can also shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

On Monday, April 8, Dallas will be the largest city in the path of totality for the once-in-a-lifetime Great North American Eclipse. We are excited to share this milestone with our students, and we want to make sure they are able to experience the eclipse in a safe manner.
In the early afternoon on April 8, students will have the opportunity to go outside to view the eclipse. The Perot Museum has generously donated protective eyewear for each student to wear, and our campus staff will monitor students to ensure the eyewear is on correctly before inviting students outside. The eyewear provided from the Perot Museum is thousands of times darker than standard sunglasses to protect students from the concentrated solar rays. To learn more about safety considerations associated with the eclipse, including skin protection, click here.
If you do not wish for your student to view the eclipse, please fill out this Google form by Friday, April 5. In lieu of going outside, students who are opted out will be able to watch NASA’s live stream of the event in our cafeteria.
We are excited for our students to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event and witness science in action! As always, parents are the ultimate decision-makers on whether or not their students will attend school. If you choose to keep your student home to view the eclipse, please notify Mrs. Jones as you would for any absence. Her email is JonesSM@lisd.net. It will count as one of your 10 parent notes. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
A Message From Officer Langston
Phishing is when someone sends a fraudulent message (email, text, social media, etc.…) that appears to be legitimate with the goal to gain access to sensitive data or install malware on your device. A common scam begins when a cybercriminal sends you a social media message…often Instagram…and asks for your help. The scammer has hijacked one of your friend’s accounts. The scammer says they are locked out of their Instagram account, and you can help them regain access. That requires you to copy and paste a reset password link that the scammer sends you via text message and asks you to text it back to them. The text message is from a strange number, but the scammer can explain that away. You’re a good person and this appears to be your friend, so you want to help. Once you send the link back, they have now taken over your Instagram account. Then the scammer sends the same message to all your contacts and takes over their accounts. The scammer might solicit money to return the account password. They may say they have been kidnapped or in jail and need money to be released. The scammer may also gain access to your cellular phone and the applications on it. That may give them access to other social media accounts and bank account information.
The moral of the story is to be very careful before you click on any links or reply to suspicious messages. No one needs your help to regain their account. Do not send money without consulting a parent. The scammers prey on your good nature and kindness. They will create a fake emergency to put stress and pressure on you, so you feel like you must make a split-second decision. Slow down. Call the person on the phone number that you know is correct for them. Talk to a parent or trusted adult. Educate yourself on how you can spot phishing attempts.
If your account or device has been taken over or you suspect malware has been installed, it is best to seek the assistance of a professional to remove it. You may also locate apps that you can download to find and remove malware or viruses. Do your research though. If you believe a District device has been affected, please contact LISD IT.

Current 8th Grade Students - Proof Of Residency
Dear Parent or Guardian,
The Texas Education Agency requires us to maintain current proof of residency for all enrolled students. This is requested when your child first enrolls with LISD and again their PK4, 5th, and 8th grade years as they transition to new campuses.
The only allowable proof of residency is a current gas, water, or electric bill dated after March 1, 2024, in the name of one of the student’s parents or legal guardians. We understand that families can experience a variety of events that affect their living situation, and we can work with you on a solution that meets the documentation requirements.
This process can be completed electronically. Simply scan an original bill or take a clear picture of the bill and upload it to this link: https://tinyurl.com/tskodu
All required proof of residency documents must be provided by April 19th. If this documentation is not received, your child's enrollment cannot be continued at the next campus or grade level. If you prefer, you may also deliver the bill directly to our front office.
If you are unable to provide this documentation by April 19th due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the campus registrar or your child's counselor to discuss the situation.
Please contact Susan Jones at 972-350-2508 if you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance.
Sincerely,
Amy Obenhaus

EAGLE SPOTLIGHT
8th Grade NJHS Project
For our NJHS spring project, we chose to deliver Easter Baskets with items donated by all of our NJHS students and decorate Kyle's Place, a shelter that gives teens housing. These teens are there through no fault of their own but rather experienced a crisis where their safety was in jeopardy. While they were at school, our 8th grade NJHS went and decorated the dining and living room and game room in their home after hearing the CEO speak of their mission and give them a tour. Our kids also hauled donations to the sheds to help staff and helped with other tasks. We are incredibly proud of our students and their efforts and citizenship they showed.

LISD Recognize Someone
Our superintendent, Dr. Rapp, is focused on creating a culture that makes LISD stand out as a district where we all thrive. One of our district goals is to retain our incredible staff members that make #ONELisd the amazing district that it is. In an effort to include parents and community members in this effort, the district has an online access point for parents to send in positive notes of encouragement to recognize staff members on all campuses to let them know that they are valued and appreciated. If you would like to recognize an ACMS staff member, you can use the link below to fill out a quick form that will be shared with the employee to let them know they are making a difference in the lives of our students and their families.

Resources for Parents
Absence Portal
Parents should provide a note, documenting the reason for the absence, to the school immediately upon the child’s return, and not later than three days after the absence. If the child was seen by a health care provider, a note from that provider is always preferred. If the student was present PART of the school day and missed the remainder for a health care appointment, a note from that provider should be given to the school within 3 days. In this circumstance, the time away from school is NOT considered an absence.
Check Out Procedure
If you need to check out your child early, please email our attendance clerk, Susan Lee, that morning, if possible. Her email address is LeeSusan@lisd.net
When you arrive at the school, you will need to ring the doorbell and show your driver's license to gain entry to the building. Once you are inside It will take a few minutes for us to send for your child, so please plan accordingly if you are headed to an appointment. We will not call students out of class before your arrival.
**PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN PICK-UP PERMISSIONS IN SKYWARD TO EVERY PERSON YOU INTEND TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD, INCLUDING EMERGENCY CONTACTS. You can edit this information in the 2023-2024 Forms Packet in Skyward Family Access. There are individual boxes that must be checked in order to give pick-up permissions.
Meal Accounts
Click here to add money to your child's meal account and view breakfast/lunch menus. There is a Free/Reduced Lunch application form available in the Skyward Back-to-School Forms packet.

Students may use their personal technology before/after school/during lunch and in the hallways during passing periods. Class time is instructional time. Students may not use their cell phones during class. All phones must be silenced and kept in backpacks during class. Cell phones may not be taken into restrooms.
