Thank you for a fantastic Homecoming Week. We will wrap things up tonight with the Homecoming Dance. Monday begins week 8 of the school year which means we are getting closer to the end of the first quarter. Students need to lock in and get focused on finishing the quarter strong. It is easier to maintain your grades than to try to play catch-up if you fall behind. Be sure to communicate with your teachers to find out what/how you can improve your standing in class so that you put your best foot forward at the end of the quarter!!

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we understand the importance of daily attendance for our students' academic and social-emotional growth. Missing a day of school here and there may not seem like much, but absences add up quickly:

• Missing just two days a month adds up to 20 days a year.

• That's 30 hours of math and 60 hours of reading and writing missed over the school year.

• These absences can add up to more than one full year of missed school by graduation!

In the event that a student will be absent from school, parents are asked to notify the school by 10:00 AM by calling the 24-hour Attendance Hotline, 614-548-1801. Additionally, please notify the school office in advance, either by phone or in writing, if your student will need to leave school early. Students must obtain a dismissal pass, and be signed out by the office before being permitted to leave the building. Please be prepared to show appropriate ID in order for the student to be released to you.

Also, please review the bell schedule for the starting times of the start of school along with each class period. It is imperative that students arrive on time for school and for their classes. Arriving on time gives students the maximum amount of instructional time in each class and correlates to success in the classroom. Let's make this a priority for our entire school community!!

9th Grade Vision and Hearing Screening

All 9th grade students will participate in state mandated vision and hearing screening on October, 14, 2024 at PHS Central. These screenings will be conducted during World History classes. College & Career Symposium - October 19, 2024

Pickerington Local Schools invites all students in grades 7 through 12 and their families to the College & Career Symposium on October 19th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with registration starting at 9:30 a.m., at Pickerington High School Central.

During the event, you can:

• Get assistance with college applications and essay writing

• Get your financial aid questions answered

• Explore military options and future career paths

• Learn about College Credit Plus and Advanced Placement courses, and how your child can earn college credit at no cost to families

• Post-Secondary planning for students with disabilities

• Meet with college and workforce representatives

The keynote speaker for the event is former Ohio State and NFL standout, and Top Youth Motivational Speaker Doug Worthington. “Coach Doug,” specializes in teaching personal responsibility, accountability, and setting high standards. When it comes to success in life, nothing is handed to you–you have to EARN IT!

Light refreshments will be available, and local food trucks will be onsite with additional food options for purchase. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore your future options and get a head start on college and career planning.

Exciting Pre-Apprenticeship Opportunities!

Mrs. Brunner recently presented to our Seniors in English 12 about the fantastic pre-apprenticeship programs available at the Fairfield County Workforce Center. We're thrilled to announce that 26 Seniors have applied! They will find out on Monday, October 7th if they’ve been selected for their program of interest.

Hands-On Career Skills Workshops
Seniors in Mrs. Parson’s English 12 classes participated in a valuable workshop led by Mrs. Brunner, focusing on resume writing. They each created their first resumes, preparing them for their future careers.

Future Focus Career Speaker Series

Join us for our Future Focus Career Speaker Series! On Friday, September 27th, Ellen Neutzling from Ohio Health shared exciting information about Healthcare careers with juniors and seniors. Did you know that Ohio Health (including Pickerington Methodist Hospital) offers employment opportunities for 16 and 17-year-olds? Positions include:

• Patient Dining and Environmental Services Associates

• Patient Support Assistants

• Pharmacy Technician Trainees
  Plus, eligible associates can receive tuition assistance of up to $5,250 yearly for college!

Next up, on Friday, October 4th, we will explore Construction careers, featuring apprenticeship opportunities at Singleton Construction. All juniors and seniors interested in this field are encouraged to attend.

On Friday, October 15th, a representative from Ohio Means Jobs will present information on a free individual career counseling program called Next Steps. This program is available for youth ages 16-24 who may face barriers like low income, learning disabilities, or language challenges. Qualifying students can benefit from monetary support for driver’s education, post-secondary education, and career readiness resources.

​Tiger Seniors,

This is a reminder that Central is hosting a Senior Picture day on Tuesday, October 8, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm at Central in the gymnasium. Graduation caps and gowns will be provided for the picture with students wearing the gown and holding the cap in their hands for the picture. We encourage students to dress for success as these pictures will be used in the yearbook as their senior photo AND will be used in our end of year slideshows that celebrate our seniors at various awards ceremonies and graduation.

Below are some reminders to make this day run smoothly:

1. Students will report to the main gym from 9:00 am-3:00 pm during their English class. Students who do not have an English class and who attend Central can go to the gym during their non-instructional class time (e.g. lunch, studyhall, and/or senior pass). Students who attend off campus programs may enter the building during the picture taking window and sign in through our front office. From there they are to report to the gym for their picture and exit the building once the picture is completed.

2. Caps and gowns are provided for the day. Caps are held in the hand and the gown is worn. Make sure you do the necessary things to prepare for a great picture (hair, make-up, etc.).

3. Hats, sunglasses, hoodies, or any other facial coverings are not permitted and the student will be asked to remove them for the picture.

4. Pictures will be from the waist up so don't worry about the pants and/or shoes.

We hope to see everyone this Tuesday, October 8, however, we will conduct a make-up session on November 8 for students who are unable to attend the first session. The November 8 session is for make-up pictures only and no re-takes will be done in this session.

Welcome to another exciting year of Tiger Athletics. We look forward to seeing students, parents, and community members come out to support our Tigers this year. Due to the passing of House Bill 147, we have new ticket prices this year to attend our home athletic events. These ticket prices are the same for online and cash sales at the gate.

All Varsity level athletic events are $10 for adults and $8 for students.

All lower level athletic events (JV,freshman, and junior high) are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

To help offset the cost of attending home Pickerington Central/Ridgeview athletic contests we offer year long passes. These passes are good for ALL home contests, ALL sports, ALL year. The costs are below:

Adult - $103 + fees

Student - $53 + fees

We also offer a free senior citizen pass for residents of Pickerington who are at least 62 years of age or older. Contact the athletic department to obtain this pass.

We also offer reserved seats for all home varsity football contests ($60 for 6 home games).
