Headteachers Message
Dear Families
I hope this message finds you well. We’ve had another positive week at school, with lots of exciting activities and opportunities for our students.
On Tuesday, we were pleased to welcome around twenty trainee teachers from St. Mary’s University into our PE department. They worked alongside our staff, delivering engaging and active lessons, and our students thoroughly enjoyed the chance to learn from them. Yesterday our Year 9 boys football team competed at home in the first round of the English Schools Cup against City of London Academy. A fair and even contest unfortunately saw the away team snatch a 2-1 victory in closing few minutes, player of the match for Teddington was Zaiyan.
This week, several students from Years 8 to 10 visited Lady Eleanor Holles School for a STEM Day centered around Coding, Health and Fitness, Careers, and even a special session on Sailing! For more details, please read the update below from Alex, one of our students who attended the trip.
Looking ahead to next week, we have several exciting events on the horizon. On Monday, we’re thrilled to welcome Callum Russell for a return visit. Callum is a visually impaired guest speaker, who will be speaking to Years 7, 9 10 and 11. He was in during the spring term last year to talk to our now Year 8s.
On Tuesday some of our Year 8 students will be visiting the Sky Studios. This promises to be a fantastic trip, offering insights into the world of media and television production.
On Wednesday, Michele Miller will be working with Year 11 students on valuable revision techniques, helping them to prepare effectively for their upcoming examinations. Later that evening, Michele will also be addressing Year 11 and 13 families in a special session aimed at supporting your children through their final school years. A letter to those invited was sent out yesterday.
On Thursday, we will be celebrating the 'European Day of Languages'. The event will include a European food sale after school, a baking competition, and many other activities with plenty of merits and prizes to be won throughout the day! For more information, please refer to the update from the MFL department below.
Finally, a quick reminder that our Open Evening is fast approaching on Wednesday, 2 October. To ensure we have time to set up, students will be dismissed at 12:20 on that day. We look forward to welcoming prospective families and showcasing our school.
Thank you for your continued support, and I wish you all a restful weekend.
Kind regards
Mr P Grills

STEM Event at Lady Eleanor Holles
A message from Alex Plail, Year 8
I went to the STEM visit at LEH, and it wasn't what I expected! Me, the students from my school and the teachers who took us there (Ms. Metcalfe and Mr. Landrum) entered their hall and a man from ‘Athena’ gave us an introduction on what was going to happen and who was going to help and teach us these exciting things. There were about 4 other schools, so it wasn't chaotic and busy. However, we didn't realise that there was Hannah Mills who performed in the Paris Olympics - she was in the sailing group! I was surprised as I love the Olympics and didn't know that she was there. She worked with the Company who set the STEM Day up. That was the extra thing I needed to know that the day was going to be great!
There were four sessions that we got to participate in. They were Coding, Health and Fitness, Careers, and a special part in Sailing! Each section had a person from the company who what talk about all they knew about. It was never boring, and it kept me on my toes. They had diverse types of equipment from iPads, actual robots, exercise equipment, a wind tunnel, eleven TVs for every section. They had so much to provide us with to make sure it was an enjoyable experience and so exciting!
Even the LEH staff helped us out. Ater 2 sessions it was lunch time, and I say there was a lot you could choose from. I am a picky eater, and they had a wide variety of food you could choose from. The LEH staff was incredibly nice to make this happen. Honestly, the people from the company were so nice and they made sure everyone was engaging in the session. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I was incredibly grateful that I was able to be there.

European Day of Languages - 26 September
A chance to celebrate the huge range of languages spoken by Teddington School students!
To celebrate European Day of Languages, the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department is organising a European food sale which will take place on Thursday 26 September from 15:00 to 15:20 in front of the theatre. Students will need to bring in cash (preferably coins) if they would like to buy something. All proceeds will go to McMillan Cancer Support.
We will also be running a cake competition. Students are invited to create a cake or biscuits with a linguistic theme - it can be to celebrate a culture or country where another language is spoken and can be anything from a recreation of a monument to a key word. Entries should be brought to school on 2 October and given to Ms Green in room 205. They will be judged, and the best displayed at open evening the same day. Happy baking!
We will also be running our popular passport scheme where Year 7 and 8 race around the school collecting and using simple phrases from different languages with different teachers.
In addition, students will be able to take part in other fun activities on the day and there will be lots of merits and prizes up for grabs!
Kind regards
The MFL Department
