SHS HIGHLIGHTS
-"HOORAY"! to SHS Game Day Cheer Squad
Congratulations are in order for the SHS Game Day Competition Cheerleaders. After missing practice for 3 weeks due to the prolonged break, this squad participated in their first competition ever and placed 2nd in Region 2A!!
Way to represent Cheer NOLES!!
-One Awesome ACT!
Congratulations to Theater Salem, under the direction of Mr. Jeffery Roper who has done it again! This week the students traveled to the One Act Competition and competed with their interpretation of “Pizza with Shrimp on Top” resulting in a 1st Place overall win in the Region!
In addition, select cast and crew won individual honors:
Dorian Sibert - Best Male Actor
Noah Campbell - All Star Cast
Chad Taphom - All Star Cast
Peyton Eleazer - Best Supporting Actor
Ashae’lee McElroy - Best Technician.
Kudos to Mr. Roper and his young actors/technician for always representing Salem with a Class Act!!

-SHS Specialty & Choice Open House
Salem will host an Open House for its International Entertainment and Business Leadership Academy this Monday, November 4th. This is for all rising 9th-12th grade students for the 2025-26 school year.
Students entering Salem’s International Entertainment and Business Leadership Academy will have the unique opportunity to blend pathways of study into a cohesive, individualized course of study that truly prepares them for a successful future in the global market.

Audio Video Technology and Film
Computer Science
Cloud Computing
Financial Technology
Game Design
Web & Digital Design
World Languages (Spanish & French)
Marine Corp ROTC
Public Administration and Management
The application for Specialty and Choice Programs for 2025-2026 is available online November 8, 2024 to December 13, 2024. Click HERE to access the online application.
-9th Grade Tour of Rockdale Career Academy
Attention 9th grade parents. If your student is interested in taking a pathway for the 2024-25 school year, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to tour Rockdale Career Academy, this Monday, November 4th.
Interested students will choose one of four clusters to tour at RCA. Students will have 10 minutes with four teachers from different pathways to get some hands-on time in the class. If you are interested in two pathways and they are in different clusters, you can visit the other pathway during Open House in November.
These tours are only open to freshman that DO NOT currently take a pathway at RCA. If you are interested, please click HERE to complete the following survey and register.
-Georgia Match Day
Rockdale County is hosting Georgia Match Day for juniors and seniors on Monday, November 4th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at Rockdale Career Academy.
The event is hosted by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) and provides students and families the opportunity to explore post-high school opportunities, learn about college admissions, financing, career exploration, entrepreneurship and military services.

-Dual Enrollment Night
Students and parents/guardians interested in dual enrollment will have a chance to learn more about this opportunity for students to take college classes and earn both high school and college credit.

-Student & Staff Picture Days
School Picture Day is fast approaching. All students (9th-12th) will be photographed for yearbook and/or school IDs on November 13th & November 14th. Students will take their pictures during their ELA class period. Any student who takes ELA at RCA, please email Mrs. Belser, nbelser@rockdale.k12.ga.us so she can confirm that you are included on the schedule.

Faculty & Staff pictures will also be taken. You will receive a complimentary 5 x 7 portrait.
-Yearbook Price Increase Nov. 15th
Attention Students! The price of the 2024-25 SHS yearbook will increase after November 15th. Right now, you can still purchase one for $65. After the 15th, the price will increase to a $70 base price with additional costs if you personalize it with your name ($10) and/or add icons ($5 each).

Interested in the Military?
Attention Junior & Seniors, if you are interested in the military or not sure what career is best for you, sign up to take the ASVAB!
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a comprehensive test designed to assess developed skills and predict future academic and occupational success in the military. Each year, it is administered to military applicants, as well as high school and post-secondary students.

SENIOR CLASS NEWS
-Herff Jones at SHS (Cap & Gown Info.)
A representative from Herff Jones will be at Salem on Wednesday, November 6th, to answer any questions senior parent and/or students may have concerning cap & gowns. You will also have the opportunity to place your order as well.

Senior Portraits at SHS
Senior portraits will be Thursday, November 7th from 9:30 - 6:00. Those who previously registered do not have to do anything but show up. Your original time slot will remain the same.
Any senior who did not register, there is still time! The road shoot offers Simple & Standard Session at the school for your convenience. It is not too late to sign up, there are still slots available.
DO NOT miss this opportunity to save money on gas and meet all your Senior Portrait needs. You must still sign up on Cady.com for this session.

-Kennesaw State Instant Decision Day
Kennesaw State University will be at Salem High School offering admissions decisions on-site.
To participate, students will need to complete their application via Common App by November 8th. They will receive their admissions decision on November 12th at Salem.

HBCU All Stars College Admissions & Scholarship Fair
HBCU All Stars, LLC will host a College Admissions & Scholarship Fair, on Wednesday, November 13th, 4:00 PM- 6:00 PM at Georgia State University Convocation Center.
Attend the college fair and learn more about admissions and scholarship opportunities followed by Howard University Bisons taking on the Tennessee State University Tigers at 7:00PM.

-Georgia Apply to College Month
November is Georgia Apply to College (GAC) Month! The goal of GAC is to provide all Georgia high school seniors with the opportunity to apply to college with a focus on providing assistance to first generation and underrepresented students as they navigate the college application process.
