Mr. Mauck's Musings
As we deal with some wet weather and high winds locally please keep those in Florida and across the south hit by hurricane Helene in your thoughts and prayers. We did have a very successful week at JHS. The girl's golf team won sectional and regional has been rescheduled for Monday. Good luck ladies. The football game tonight at Evansville Central has also been rescheduled for Saturday at 4 pm. Addison Schnell was recognized as a National Merit Commended Student. Addison's test scores placed her in the top 50,000 students nationwide and she is one of only 34,000 commended students in the United States. Isabella Harmon is our 2024/2025 Daughters of the American Revolution Award Recipient. She will be writing an essay next week to compete for the scholarship. The Marching Wildcats won first place and overall best visual at the competition at Floyd Central in Saturday. This weekend (9/28/24), they will be competing at Avon with the performance time at 7:00pm EST. Jasper FFA Chapter competed at the annual Dubois County Soils Judging Invitational. The team of Grace Kluemper, Emma Popp, Claire Linette, and Carter Wagner placed 1st out of 16 competing teams. The team of Bodie Lechner, Jace Wagner, Luke Popp, and Trent Walton placed 7th. Individually Emma Popp placed 1st, Grace Kluemper placed 3rd, Claire Linette placed 4th, and Carter Wagner placed 8th out of 68 students. Congratulations to our FFA Horticulture team who competed at state last weekend. This team was composed of: Kenadie Ambrose, Carson Powell, Kate Yarbrough, and Brooklyn Rasche who placed 3rd overall as a team at state. Bill Willis presented each Junior student with a pocket sized version of the United States Constitution and spoke to the students about the importance of the founding document. Congratulations to Chase Maxwell and Tina Hilgediek for being recognized as the Student and Staff of the Week. The Educator's Rising club will be holding monthly kid's night out events. Check out the flyer below. Health Pointe is again requesting that parents do not pickup students in their parking lot. It is dangerous for the kids to cross traffic and their parking lot is becoming too congested. Please pick up students after school in the Southeast parking lot and exit around the North side of the school. Have a great weekend and Go Cats!

Community Events
Here are a few community events of interest.
On behalf of the Purdue University Women in Engineering Program, I wanted to share information with you regarding a free college campus visit opportunity. The engineering-focused event is called Exploring Engineering at Purdue and is geared toward young women in their junior and/or senior year of high school.
Students who register will enjoy a comprehensive, full-day engineering experience on Monday, October 14, 2024. An optional ‘meet and greet’ on Sunday, October 13, will be offered with extended opportunities to speak directly with engineering clubs and majors. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend on both dates.
Please view the flyer containing more information. Registration is required, at www.purdue.edu/wiep under the “Events” tab. I’ve added a QR code with the flyer for easy access to this webpage.
We hope you will announce and share this opportunity with your school and colleagues.
Thank you in advance for encouraging your students to explore engineering during this free, day-long event. We appreciate your consideration.
