Legislative Day 2016
Virginia School Counselor Association
Legislative Day 2016 was a huge success! VSCA Board Members, ASCA's Director of Public Policy, and VSCA Members joined together to educate Virginia's Lawmakers about what we do, why we are important, and what we need! We hope you can join us next year for Legislative Day 2017! We are VSCA!
David Bailey's Opening Night Reception
VSCA Board members served as hosts at David Bailey's Opening Night Reception for Senators, Delegates, and the Cabinet, including the Secretary of Education. We were able to meet legislators from all over the commonwealth and talk about the importance of School Counselors and our roles in schools. We also invited them to our Legislative Day the next day.
The Governor's State of the Commonwealth Address
Brett Welch, VSCA's President and Renee Zando, VSCA's Government Relations Chair were in the galley during the Governor's State of the Commonwealth Address. Tickets were provided by David Bailey and Associates.
Legislative Day
VSCA Members and ASCA's Director of Public Policy, Amanda Fitzgerald helped VSCA Board Members lobby for issues that affect our schools and students! We had a one pager to share with Senators and Delegates who joined us for coffee and pastries. They were interested in hearing bills that we supported and were against and even shared their own bills with us to gain our opinions. Some VSCA members walked around the Virginia Assembly building and met with their own Legislators who represent their home and schools.
Being Introduced on the House and Senate Floors
Some of us stayed and sat in the Galley at the State Capitol's House of Delegates or the Senate. Delegate Jennifer McClellan and Senator John Edwards introduced VSCA members and thanked us for the work that we do!
